pronunciation
editHow the heck do you pronounce his name? Recury 02:14, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- I would think Laslowe Moh-oly Nargi but ask on Talk:Hungary or Talk:Hungarian language to be certain. Arniep 19:28, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- From a Hungarian speaker I heard, Lazlõ Mõhõly Nǎzh (like the "s" in television or measure). Pinkville 03:09, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- It is Nǎzh like the "s" in "vision" (or like Zsa Zsa) although few North Americans would pronounce it like that, even an art history prof. I T.A.'d for pronounced it "naygee". Freshacconci 15:54, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- Nagy has a slightly different pronunciation. You like potato and I like potahto. Freshacconci 22:40, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- It certainly is not any of these, friends. Without resorting to IPA, the pronunciation should probably be "LASS-low MO-hoiL NAWDJ", though the L in Moholy is palatalized, like the Russian L or like in the phrase "ball yard". The last sound (-gy) also does not exist in English, but is basically the dj in "judge", but with the middle of your tongue touching the roof of your mouth, not the tip. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.135.36.191 (talk) 01:55, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
the pronunciation is wrong
editI dont fully understand the prononctuation simbols, but since Mohol is a town, the appended 'y' is a sign of noblity. 'ly' would otherwise be pronounced as a 'j' but in this case it is 'li'.
I hope that helps :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.98.128.14 (talk) 20:43, 1 April 2007 (UTC).
I'm from Hungary. László Moholy-Nagy \ˈlaːsloː ˈmoholiˌnɒɟ\ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.134.161.53 (talk) 11:29, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
pronunciation
editIt is pronounced ma-ho-ly naj —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.2.111.160 (talk) 19:18, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Actually, at the time that he invented his name, there is evidence that it was pronounced "Mohoj," rather than "Moho-Lee," which would also be correct. Once he got involved with Leftist circles, I think he was anxious to de-emphasize the noble overtones of the "y" in "Moholy." As to "Nagy," the "gy" is approximated by the "s" in "vision," but is not the same. The "gy" sound (as in "magyar" for Hungarian) is more like a slide from a soft "d" to a "y". It is closer to (though not identical with) the "dj" sound in "adjust." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oliarpi (talk • contribs) 00:50, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
Pictures
editAre many of his works in the public domain? Can we put some pictures up here? If the works are public domain, that doesn't mean photos of them would be, though, right?--96.242.191.15 (talk) 20:56, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
What is an "Ada town?"
editWhat is an Ada town? All day long, looking at a lot of things in Wikipedia, and they are used, but not explained and not linked.

Lucia
editIn an article on Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, why is there not a single mention of his partner Lucia Moholy? An extraordinary oversight which I shall attempt to remedy, though in the meantime perhaps one of the original editors might add information?Jamesmcardle(talk) 10:03, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

Created an image gallery
editI found a cache of Moholy-Nagy images on WikiMedia Commons, and added a more-representative survey of the artists's work. I was only able to find 2 photocollages, and will try to add more of his photographic work since it is at least as important as his painting. I did find some examples of his sculptural work, which I added to the article.
What is missing is a picture of his influential and iconic Light-Space Modulator (1930), which is on permanent display at the Harvard Art Museums in Boston. This refrigerator-sized construction is motorized, and is demonstrated in action several times per month. Some good photos and/or a video could be made of this artwork. As of 2019[update], a "Light Ballet" kinetic sculpture by Otto Piene, who was directly inspired by seeing the sculpture by Moholy-Nagy, is also on display and activated periodically. Double mention of 'Jewish'
editWhy is the fact that his father was Jewish explicitly stated, after it was previously mentioned that the whole family was Jewish. In the best case this redundancy created through multiple edits, in the wirst case it was added with an antisemitic tone, given the negative context.
Also 'abandoned' is an unprofessionally emotional choice of words and should be change as well in my opinion.
If my comments find approval, I will change it.
