Gambetta's Eye
editThe introductory paragraph talks of Gambetta's left eye as missing, yet all the illustrations show his left eye and hide his right eye. Perhaps someone with a better knowledge of French should check. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.149.70.113 (talk) 15:00, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
Place of death
editAs discussed here the place of death seems to be Ville-d'Avray. http://www.assemblee-nationale.fr/sycomore/fiche.asp?num_dept=3237 --88.68.176.11 (talk) 09:54, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Biased paragraph
editHave a look at this:
- Gambetta's stance has been explained by reference to his status as a republican lawyer, who fought from the bar instead of the barricade[2] and also to his father having been a grocer in Marseille. As a small-scale producer during the decades of the Second Industrial Revolution in France, Joseph Gambetta had chain groceries taking business away from his establishment. This added a measure of resentment to the "petit bourgeois" identity. This resentment was not only directed at bourgeois industrial capitalism, but also at the worker, who was now proclaimed as the backbone of the French economy, stripping the title from the small, independent shopkeeper.[3] This resentment may have been passed down from father to son, and manifested itself in an unwillingness to support the lower-class Communards usurpation of what rightfully belonged to the "petit bourgeoisie."
To me it seems heavily slanted. Bazuz (talk) 22:34, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
Career
editOn (17 January) (1870), he spoke out...
The parentheses here do not make any sense to me. I haven't removed them only because my not understanding their use does not necessarily make them incorrect.

Self-exile to San Sebastian section- quotation needs translation.
editIf it's more than a familiar phrase, you need to provide a translation. This section has a complete clause in French and a long one. You like French quotations, fine. Go edit the French version and everyone will understand exactly what you write.
Death: accident or cancer?
editThe article claims claims that the gun accident was not the cause of his death and also that it was the cause of his death.
You can't have it both ways. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23.119.204.117 (talk) 01:58, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
Hot Air indeed
editPlease compare the French entry: Gambetta escapes from besieged Paris by gas (hydrogen mostly) filled balloon ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.108.27.26 (talk) 17:34, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

Clarify, please
editWhile in San Sebastián, Gambetta walked the beaches daily, the warm sea winds of early spring doing little to refresh his mind.
- Whatever does this mean? If it's a quotation, it would need referencing. Perhaps it means 'doing a little...' Valetude (talk) 23:25, 6 October 2019 (UTC)
