Move Discussion

edit

I was wondering if "Gay Media" could be changed to "LGBTQ+/LGBT Media". The article itself covers more than just gay media, so a broader term would indicate that. I'm not sure how to do it myself, though. Amethystloucks (talk) 18:33, 17 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, I think it could be changed to LGBT media, while keeping "Gay media" as a redirect. Only one of the sources I can access, Gross's Up from Invisibility: Lesbians, Gay Men, and the Media in America mentions "gay media" as a term, and even then, it refers to its use in the 1970s and 1990s. On the other hand, I'd even say this page should be merged into Media portrayal of LGBT people, as it is more than just gay characters and media.
That's a good idea. I'm not sure how to merge, either - is there someone who could do that for us? Amethystloucks (talk) 19:57, 17 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Amethystloucks: Thanks to those who proposed this. There being no disagreement over the past 3 years, and with my concurrence, I have performed the move and the article is now 'LGBT+ media'. The term 'gay' generally applies only to homosexual men. Per this Talk, LGBT is now the accepted generic initalism. I have pre-emptively added + to avoid a battle over whether to add Q and the litany of other initials Chrisdevelop (talk) 20:38, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Follow up to this as it appears that there wasn't any contention. Per the recent move discussion, the main article has now moved from LGBT to LGBTQ following the data, so I WP:BOLDly moved this page to follow this to LGBTQ+ media (keeping the plus you had already added in March, but expanding with the Q explicitly since it was already discussed in the article anyway). Opinions on this article?

edit

Hello all, This article was pretty bad. I fixed it up today a little bit but I think that it could still use some better sources (page numbers would be nice and not just a bunch of urls to search terms in books lol) and a heavy addition of content about places that are not the US.

Barring that, what are the community's thoughts on having this article? In my opinion, it might be better being merged to somewhere like LGBTQ culture, but I don't feel too strongly either way. If someone is interested in helping to make it up to snuff here, that would also be great.

Share your thoughts below, I'm curious to see what everyone has to say.
