How do LSIDs work?
editMore information on how the standard came about and who maintains it would be useful. KirbyRandolf (talk) 17:41, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Criticism
editWhat is all that incomprehensible ranting about in the Criticism section? I'd vote to cut out the part about semantic web etc etc. what does it even mean? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.217.18.120 (talk) 08:50, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- It means it's life sciences and they can't really standardise a thing, let alone anything as complex as a sample ID. The usual method of "standardisation" there is for each lab to either hide what it is doing entirely (whether because it is a trade secret or because they've got poor control of such things and don't want to admit it) or to loudly proclaim that they're doing it the One True Way and that everyone else should change to follow the same scheme immediately. Megaphone diplomacy at its finest. It's not helped by it being moderately difficult to attach IDs to samples in some cases (unless the cost of RFID has come down a lot) as you can't pack that much onto a label and have things still visible in a -80C freezer. -77.99.189.141 (talk) 13:58, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
