Pranoy Roy passed out of The Doon School, not La Martiniere. He probably attended La Martiniere till the fifth grade. Does that qualify him as a famous alumni?
assess
editVery important schools with impressive histories should have very good impressive wiki pages. We can help. Some pictures and arrange your refs using the ref tag. You can ask for help ... Victuallers 10:43, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Plans for this page
editYou may have noticed that there has been a lot of activity on La Martiniere Lucknow with hundreds of edits trying to get that article to "good article" status. Some of that work is going to be used to improve other La Martinere schools. If you are interested in finding out about these plans (or helping??) then try leaving a message of the Lucknow school talk page. Victuallers 07:59, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

editI have nominated Template:La Martiniere Song (appears on this page) for deletion, you can see the debate here. Thanks. Twenty Years 14:41, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
Re-assessment
editFollowing discussion at WT:SCH I am re-assessing this article for WikiProject Schools. I am going to give this article an assessment of Start / High. A well established article but it needs further references, perhaps a bit of cleanup with wikicode and layout, and little further expansion to reach B class.
I am giving it High importance due to been within the top ten "most respected secondary schools" in India in 2007 as well as for its extensive alumni list - though better referencing on alumni is needed. Camaron1 | Chris 19:00, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Brillianr, but
editCan the person who just loaded lots of interesting information identify themselves (signing in means that you can be sent messages). First like to thank you but also interested in the source of the info. Can you tell us more? Victuallers 07:44, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- Not so brilliant I'm afraid. The whole section was lifted verbatim from the Old Martinians' website. It is therefore in breach of copyright so I've had to delete it. Dahliarose 08:30, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Pity if that person or someone reading this would name themselves then they could help... Victuallers 13:17, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject class rating
editThis article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 18:33, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Section Blanking
editThe following section was removed without explanation from the article (at least twice) and from this talk page. The cited sources that I checked seem to be valid. While it may need rewriting for tone and quality, I am unsure if it qualifies for complete removal. Could someone explain what I'm not getting about this? Eponymous (talk) 14:23, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Criticism
editThe La Martiniere School had been accused of the inhuman torture inflicted by teachers. A class eight student had committed suicide because of beaten and humiliated in class by his teachers. The boys father said that "the boy has been constantly victimized, abuse, ridicule and humiliated combined with beating".[1] There has also been controversy over a teacher demanding a laptop as a bribe from the father of a Class IV student presumably to promote him. The teacher, Sanjay Smart was later arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the child's father.[2] As a fallout of this controversy the school management sacked two reputed board members, Neil O'Brien and K.S.David after they fell out with other members over their demands for sacking the accused teacher.[3] A subsequent probe by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) concluded that corporal punishments were a norm at the school and according to Ashok Agarwal, a probe committee member - the environment at La Martiniere is not suitable for children.[4]

- I'd propose the removal of most parts of the section. If the whole issue can be resumed in 1-2 sentences (+ keeping the last sentence "A subsequent probe by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) concluded that corporal punishments were a norm at the school and according to Ashok Agarwal, a probe committee member - the environment at La Martiniere is not suitable for children"), without names of individuals, that is fine. --Soman (talk) 13:08, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- I have to state that there must be an entire section, as the case has impacted the general assumption of the India education system.
1)The pricipal and three teachers has been arrested
Rouvanjit Rawla suicide: Kolkata La Martiniere principal and teachers held, get bail, India Today, October 4, 2010
2) They continued to use corporal punishment despite the fact that the Supreme Court did ban it 10 years ago

Noteworthy Alumni
editMany of the alumni listed don't seem to be particularly noteworthy. I think they need to have their own page on wikipedia to make the cut. Any thoughts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.254.147.228 (talk) 12:59, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
