Etymology
editGood chance the generic epithet was somehow based on labium/labia, referring to the main use of the type species -getting a tight vagina. But the Latin doesn't quite compute, adding '-sia' as a suffix... I don't know, doesn't look right. Note, however, that the plant was earlier known as Ardisia pumila (which is probably why it was called 'pumila' -it is quite dwarf compared to real Ardisia).
