Picture? Are they?

Can anyone identify which of these (if any) is Lachlan in this video. Victuallers (talk) 23:06, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

Lun4so1 (talk) 09:42, 28 March 2019 (UTC) I would say no one. This video is 9 years old and I would say the kids are older than ten. Lun4so1 (talk) 09:42, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Recent source added re pronouns

The source supporting the statement that Watson had their breasts removed states "we're using he/him at the request of his representatives, as Watson views pronouns as little more than syllables at this point in his journey, noting that the words "don’t really make me that uncomfortable anymore". So should the article use that, or maybe just state that is their preference? They don't seem to be identifying as male, just saying they don't care about pronouns. 331dot (talk) 09:18, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

If she doesn’t care, then use “she”. That is the correct one Lawsro (talk) 01:58, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
If they don't "care", then perhaps "they" would be best suited. "She" is by no means the "correct one". -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 03:01, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
Per MOS:GENDERID, we should reflect their latest self-identification, which seems to be they/them. Watson's instagram page, which Watson updates regularly, says "they/them". Recent articles about Watson use they/them as well, like this one from this year. The article that used he/him is from 2018. WanderingWanda (talk) 03:40, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

“They” is not the right pronoun to use when referring to a single person. Why allow disfiguration and bastardization of the English language to appease left wing advocacy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.143.179.41 (talk)

Regarding your edit summary, there is no freedom of speech here; see WP:FREESPEECH. Freedom of speech means your government will not jail or punish you for what you say here, it does not mean you cannot be restricted by private entites from speaking on their platforms, just as you can restrict what is said and done within the four walls of your residence. That said, if you disagree with Wikipedia policy in this area, you are free to work to change it at the guideline talk page. If LGBT topics offend you, perhaps you should stay away from them. 331dot (talk) 17:42, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Recommend that the article is rewritten using the correct pronouns. It would appear that that I'm not the first person to request this but it appears that one editor is making all the decisions. The whole point of the "talk" page is to discuss. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.143.179.41 (talk) 17:50, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

I've discussed it with you, but you are ignoring me. We have a guideline in this area, MOS:GENDERID, to determine the "correct" pronoun. That you don't agree with it is not sufficient reason to ignore it. If you wish to change the guideline, you are free to work to do that. You are also free to believe as you wish, but please treat everyone here with basic human dignity and respect. 331dot (talk) 17:54, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Readability issues with use of They/Them makes some sentences confusing

For example: "Watson stated that they used their own personal experience to shape the character and to influence the way the character's story line is written in order to resonate with genderqueer viewers."

Is the 'They' being used here referring solely to Watson or does it refer to the crew/staff that wrote the character?

---

Part of the problem with using They/them is that it is plural and as such does not distinguish an individual.

When describing a noun outside of 'he/she' or 'him/her', the appropriate neutral word to describe the noun is the word 'it'.

"it doesnt know what its doing" ..is.. for example, how you describe something if you dont know its gender, is undefined, or exists outside the dual class.

Calling the dog "they" or "them" and you no longer know if you are talking about 'that' dog anymore..

And before someone says using 'it' is rude, it really isnt honestly. It is the appropriate word to use and we call other pets and babies this.

Example: A baby who hasnt developed, kicking the stomach is usually distinguished as 'it' commonly expressed as it kicked. Mkirk02 (talk) 22:37, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

Genders

No matter what a person identifies as, there are two genders. A person is either a man or a woman. Stop changing the pronouns to they, their, them,... This is an encyclopedia. LesRoutine (talk) 13:27, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

That is your opinion and not a Wikipedia guideline. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Gender identity. -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 13:31, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

You mean “her” talk page... — Preceding unsigned comment added by LesRoutine (talkcontribs) 13:45, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

LesRoutine I used the gender neutral "their" in this case, because I had not been made aware of what your gender identity is, and that is irrelevant to the fact that you are vandalizing a Wikipedia article. -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 13:47, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

I wasn’t vandalising the page. I read it and saw there was a lack of gender on the page, so I added it for future readers. After all, this is an encyclopedia isn’t it? Not a playground for your gender idiocracy? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LesRoutine (talkcontribs) 14:01, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Exactly, it is an encyclopedia. Not a playground for childlike behavior. There is a notice on the top of this talk page clarifying how gender pronouns should be used in the article, and in the body of the article it explains the subject's gender identity. I am simply respecting Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. You are not. -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 14:03, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
LesRoutine It is true that Wikipedia guidelines(in this case, MOS:GENDERID call for deference to how the individual identifies their own gender(or lack thereof) in terms of how the article refers to them. You are free to feel as you wish personally, but you must abide by Wikipedia guidelines when you edit. You are free to work to change this guideline, but until you do, it is general policy. If your views on this matter prevent you from being willing to follow guidelines in this area, I would suggest you find another area of Wikipedia to edit. 331dot (talk) 14:03, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
331dot The issue is that misuse of pronouns affects the readability of an article. As I have pointed out in my other question. Mkirk02 (talk) 23:04, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
Mkirk02 Please review MOS:GENDERID. You are free to work to change that guideline, but until it is changed, it calls for using the pronouns that the individual self identifies as. Subjective opinions of readability don't factor into it, at least right now. 331dot (talk) 00:10, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
