American Prospect story

edit

Here's a good profile of Lael Brainard by Robert Kuttner, from the perspective of a writer and political aide who is on the progressive (left) end of the liberal mainstream. The biographical part of Kuttner's profile follows this WP article, except that it's better written and more detailed, and follows a coherent theme.

For example, her father, Alfred Brainard, was among the first U.S. officials in Poland to reach out to Solidarnosc and other dissident groups.

Kuttner's assessment of Brainard is that she is trying to reach out to the progressive, left community, but not moving so far in her policies that she would upset the establishment -- compared, say, to Elizabeth Warren. "Brainard’s policies, though activist around the edges, would be no threat to Wall Street’s core business model."

But Kuttner gives a roundup of opinions on Brainard, not just his own.

Liberalish: The Complex Odyssey of Lael Brainard
Biden’s leading choice for Treasury secretary is somewhat more liberal than she used to be. Is that enough?
