I just had to edit the part describing Grand Valley State University, where someone added a bit that it was "for those who couldn't get into Missouri Western State University...". 68.53.156.218 03:24, 13 December 2006 (UTC) what eveer —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.167.111.19 (talk) 18:55, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lakers past locations that important?

edit

The Lakers "a professional basketball team originally based in Detroit and later Minneapolis." could be rather confusing to someone unknowing of their history, or perhaps outside the U.S. that isn't familiar with NBA teams. One could put "a professional basketball team playing in the National Basketball Association" because the fact that the Lakers were originally located in Detroit (as the Gems) is extremely obscure and shouldn't be part of a one-line description of the team. LakerLaker (disambiguation) – Primary topic for "Laker" or "Lakers" is the Los Angeles Lakers. I don't think any of these other sports teams on this page, or the other topics are close to the name recognition or history of the LA Lakers. Propose move of this page and a primary redirect of "Laker"/"Lakers" to the Los Angeles Lakers. Natg 19 (talk) 18:47, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Crouch, Swale: changed the redirect target of Lakers away from the Los Angeles Lakers here (rationale: ambiguous with Lake freighter and lots of other teams like Clippers, Ravens and Marlins) but I disagree that the term "Lakers" is analogous to those terms. The Los Angeles Lakers page can have a hatnote to lake freighter if more clarity is needed. Natg 19 (talk) 18:58, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've undone the recent retargeting of Lakers pending a consensus on it -- it differs from this one, and there is clear controversy and would require discussion to move.--Yaksar (let's chat) 01:56, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
