"There is no specific language used in these islands. For communication each island has there own dialect." (contribution from User:Noorul). I guess as far as Indians are concerned, folks out there just say mumble mumble mumble...

The natives of Lakshadweep speak a special local dilect of the Malayalam language. thunderboltz 11:55, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

They are residents of these islands are Indians themselves. IndiBoy 05:45, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Every time I read that "mumble mumble mumble..." I burst out laughing... :-p Tomer TALK July 3, 2005 21:52 (UTC)
NO Lakshadweep is a Union territory. It cannot be renamed. Merge the archipelego here instead. =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:02, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

Kiltan island

Kiltan island was missing in the list inhabited islands. I have added it earlier. But someone removed that island from the list. What might be the reason to remove that island from the list. Noorul 14:20, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Why does it say 7th?

They are not ranked 7th in area or population in area or population—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.206.165.44 (talk) 04:48, 28 January 2007 (UTC).

Name in Malayalam

Why is the name not written in Malayalam as well as in English and Tamil (which it doesn't need to be) since the islands' official language is Malayalam. I don't know why the name is in Tamil.

The people of Lakshadweep speak jasari language which does not have a script of its own but is normally written using malayalam scripts. (the language is not similar to malayalam - a native of Kerala will find difficult to understand the island language).

Entertainment in Lakshadweep

Can someone add about the recreational facilities for the natives in Lakshadweep?
1. What are the sports/games played in the island?
2. What about the Television channels available?
3. Are there any FM Radio channels available?
4. Are there Cinema theaters in Lakshadweep ?
5. Are there any parks ?
6. Are there any festivals celebrated in large numbers ?
7. Is Internet available in all the islands ?
8. Are people owning cars/bikes etc. in Lakshadweep ?

Doing... TheSpecialUser TSU 05:37, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

A quick fail. Here are just few points:

  • The prose is in pretty bad condition with a lot of copyedits needed
  • Refs- there are just 25 of them with a big article. Also, few are not reliable
  • Caption to images are not well and needs WP:ALT as well
  • Neutrality- not quite happy with few terms
  • Lacks a number of info
  • Many facts are not sourced

Right now, it is failing all criteria in Wikipedia:Good_article_criteria other then being stable. TheSpecialUser TSU 05:52, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Desalination

I think the fact that the the low temp desalination plant was the first in the world deserves a mention in the desalination section.--Ayanosh (talk) 05:30, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Points to cover

  • Planning Commission, Government of India (2008). Lakshadweep Development Report. State Development Report Series. Academic Foundation. ISBN 9788171886234.

This is a quite good structural guide to many of the aspects of this subject that need covering. Chapter 2, "Economic issues", addresses several topics in turn, in sections headed: Agriculture, Animal husbandry, Soil and water conservation, Fisheries and ocean development, Coöperation and civil supplies, Public distribution system, Tourism, Industries, and Savings and investments. Chapter 3, "Infrastructure", is similarly useful. These tell one what things at minimum this article needs to cover in order to have rounded coverage of this subject.

Note that it's also a fairly good source in its own right for facts and figures. See page 41, for example.
