Origins of stage name
Have removed the second paragraph suggesting origins of stage name (Lana Turner/ Ford Del Rey). Lana Del Rey is quoted in February 2012 Q magazine as trashing those claims; also, the 3 or 4 references cite absolutely no reference to the stage name origins, and are false. Can we please keep them off the page? FungasUK
The quote about her stage name origin is pure PR fiction, as she's later revealed. In the Feb. 06, 2012 edition of Time, she is quoted by Douglas Wolk as having said her stage name, "came from a series of managers and lawyers over the last five years who wanted a name that they thought better fit the sound of the music."[1] Art Carnage (talk) 16:33, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
I read the full article from Time Magazine, "Not So Fast." It appears the author, Douglas Wolk, obtained the quotation about the origin from her name not directly from the artist and quoted a past interview. I feel in order to post this quote on Wikipedia, someone needs to find the original interview from whence this was published. Wold, Douglas. "Not So Fast". Time Magazine. Retrieved 9 February 2012. The direct source for the quote "Lana Del Rey came from a series of managers and lawyers over the last 5 years who wanted a name that they thought better fit the sound of the music," originated from the following interview from repeatfanzine.co.uk http://www.repeatfanzine.co.uk/interviews/Lana%20Del%20Rey.htm Seadark (talk)
"Kill Kill" album
The information on this album seems scanty. It does not seem to be currently available as a CD or download, but I am listening to it right now on the (legal) streaming service Rara.com. There are 12 tracks, and from the cover picture the title seems to be 'Lan Del Rey', not 'Kill Kill' (which is the first track).86.180.93.43 (talk) 12:33, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
^ Regarding the "Kill Kill" album, I purchased Lana's debut album digitally from Napster back in August, and although it's since been taken down, my copy was actually entitled "Lana Del Ray A.K.A. Lizzy Grant" with a "Ray" instead of the current "Rey." I'm guessing she changed her stage name since the 2010 release, but you are correct that it is a full-fledged LP and not an EP entitled "Kill Kill" (mine actually has 13 tracks). While it's not available for purchase anymore, you can see the album and the tracks on Amazon's digital store here: http://www.amazon.com/Lana-Del-Ray/dp/B0030HGJKU — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.31.191.188 (talk) 20:02, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
She released and EP and an Album EP kill kill album Lixxy Grant AKA Lana Del rey.
Interview with Lizzy Grants first Label, 5 Points owner David Nichtern:
'What happened was, we first put out an EP under the name Lizzy Grant. She got quite a nice notoriety from that. A guy at Apple, who’s a programmer for the new stuff, he loved it. So we got featured based on the EP as one of the iTunes emerging artists of that year. So that was a very positive circumstance. And then we were moving towards the whole album and that’s when things shifted. She wanted to change her name, got new management, they wanted to change the record. A lot of things happened that made it difficult to figure out exactly what image she was going to have, what she was going to support, and [she] clearly didn’t seem that excited about the record. The manager came in and was insulting about the record, and I thought, “Wow, we’re an indie label, we got David Kahne to produce this record and you’re negative about it.” I think it had some masterful elements to it and a huge amount of work went into it. He worked hard to get the vocals to where he wanted them to be. It was like any of those projects: there was a certain amount of friction between the artist and the producer. I went in a couple of times to kind of make peace. I always asked Lizzy if she was okay with this, does she want to be doing this? And it was emotional, but she did. So all along the way, I told her the right way to go, with the name, but she made certain decisions. That’s why I laugh pretty hard when someone said she was put into an image. There’s no way you can do that with her. She’s very headstrong and knows what she wants. That’s a mistake, too. She wanted to be known as Lana Del Rey pretty early on. That was her name, she cooked that up, I thought it was a little wack. [Laughs.] She was this beautiful young songwriter named Lizzy Grant, it was a cool name. But she wanted to create this thing, Lana Del Rey. We put out the album digitally and at first she wanted it “R-A-Y” and then we did one version of it that way, and then she wanted to change it to “R-E-Y” so that was now the third name we were using to promote that artist. Shortly after that, her and her new manager came in and said “We want to get this off the market. We’re going for a completely new deal. We’ll buy you out of the deal.” So we made a separation agreement."

Saturday Night Live?
The article states that Del Rey's performance on Jan. 14, 2012 was under par, flat and unimpressive. It's Jan. 14, 2012, Saturday Night Live is on now, live. Where did these comments come on? A private viewing somewhere? Though it's obvious that Del Rey is a manipulated product of her father, the girl looks like a young Marianne Faithful (good), and sounds like an old Marianne Faithful (gritty but palpable). I simply question the review of a live show that hasn't aired yet. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Muse55 (talk • contribs) 05:53, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

The quote at the end of the section from Del Rey says she defended herself. However, the quote was said before she performed, according to the source. I can't find an article after the performance where she talks about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matchgame72 (talk • contribs) 12:39, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
- It was flat and unimpressive when I saw it. It almost confirmed my suspicions about Liz Grant's studio-based/post production singing "talent". Whether or not the original poster saw an advanced private screening doesn't really change my mind about this manufactured pop star. --98.119.14.40 (talk) 17:51, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
Correction: Confirmed Fordham University Alumnus (Not a "Drop out")
Article states Lana Del Rey "dropped out" of Fordham University yet the cited article does not confirm this statement. Fordham University has verified Lizzie Grant (a.k.a. Lana Del Rey) graduated from the institution in 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy.
Also, in her interview with GQ Magazine [1] Lana Del Rey speaks of Fordham and does not mention she dropped out. This Wikipedia page of individuals who have graduated from Fordham University, though it is peripheral to the University's main page, also bears the artist's name. For the sake of balance, I think it's important the article mention that her followup US TV appearance on David Letterman was much more positively reviewed and received than her SNL appearance. 2010: Lana Del Ray A.K.A. Lizzy Grant
This whole section is too biased and has ignored the other facts stated in that interview that Lana del rey was offered a deal and pulled out of the label 5points after buying out the rights to the album in 2010. David Kahne [producer] also stated that this had happened in an interview. Her father is wealthy it's quite easy to find out the value of his companies.
'Contrarily, according to 5 Points owner Dave Nichtern, he "always thought she had potential to have a major breakthrough. That’s why we signed her in the first place".[25] According to Nichtern, Del Rey was a college senior when she first came to the label, "and was playing plunky little acoustic guitar. She would ride around on the subways all night sometimes, writing lyrics and stuff like that."[25] In a February 2012 interview with MTV, Nichtern also stated that Grant had "wanted to be known as Lana Del Rey very early on", and that there "was a lot of misinformation" about the fruition of her first record. He also stated that the media insinuations about Del Rey being backed by her "millionaire father" were "a bunch of crap",[26] further stating:
"Her father never had anything to do financially with supporting her creativity. I don’t know if he was lending her money to live off of, but at least when she was with us, not a penny. I don’t know if he’s rich or not; I met him and he seemed like a pretty ordinary guy. But that whole thing that she was backed by her millionaire dad is a bunch of crap, basically. Certain facts about the record she did with us are completely misshapen.
Agree this edit is incorrect, it's just a random paragraph taken from an interview and is out of context. It is not in contrary to the previous paragraph. David Nichtern actually confirms what David Kahne said in the paragraph, that Lizzy Grant bought them out in a new contract they drew up on her request in April 2010.
It appears who ever made this edit made it in a biased way avoiding anything that might show Grant in a negative light.
If you read the interview with Lizzy Grants dad Rob Grant [30] he actually states he helped helped market his daughters first album as he used to be an advertising guru on Madison Ave before Grant was born.
Grant bought the rights to the album in April 2010 not recently, this is spin control
In January 2012, Del Rey revealed that she recently bought back the rights to her 2010 album Lana Del Ray A.K.A. Lizzy Grant and will re-release it in the Summer of 2012 under Interscope Records and Polydor.[48]
This is incorrect her previous producer and previous label have both said Grant and her management bought the rights to the album in April 2010 3 months after it had been put up on itunes as another deal was offered to her, they insisted that all trace be removed of the album, they didn't want any reference to it anywhere, it was written in a new contract and they were following up on it weekly:source;

Controversy Surrounding Del Rey
After it was discovered that Del Rey's new look and name weren't always her own, backlash surrounded the artist. Arguments have been made that Lana is a fabricated persona rather than artist and simply the result of clever marketing.
"She was basically a failed mainstream artist who is being 'rebranded' behind major label dollars," read a scathing piece on the Hipster Runoff blog in September, claiming to "expose" the singer's past. (Ohnotheydidn't.livejournal.com)(http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/65243890.html#ixzz1qqcr6nCm)
On the other side of things on January 30, 2012 Spin.com launched an article addressing the public's concerned and defending Del Rey:
"The myth, as it is presently understood: Lana Del Rey is an extended vanity project bankrolled by her dad's money and honed, over the years, by a series of lawyers and managers who have shaped her image and plotted her career path. She is merely a canvas of a girl, and a willing one at that. Bloggers and journalists take pains to note that her real name is Lizzy Grant, that Lana Del Rey is "fake," as are her lips. ("Lizzy Grant" sounds like a Disney tween star; it's easy to see why she changed it. Certainly no one was this incensed to discover that "Lady Gaga" is not printed on a certain singer's birth certificate.)"

Sirens
It should be deleted from discography section. It hasn't been confirmed as Lana's album, and even if it is(which is probably true), it was released under the name of May Jailer, so it's kind of side project, not official Lana's album. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.10.123.62 (talk) 16:18, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
- I guess that depends on whether the article covers all Lizzie Grant's musical aliases, or only those under the name Lana Del Rey. If the latter, then perhaps there ought to be a separate article for Elizabeth Grant covering all her musical career. RGCorris (talk) 19:26, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

As of 17 / 10 / 2011 at least she still appears to be on their books http://strangerrecords.com/#section_03releases_2011-10-17_lana_del_rey_video_games Sometime in August 2012 Stranger Records confirmed a continuation of Mercury partnership who are another sub-label of Universal Music Group http://www.thecmuwebsite.com/article/stranger-confirms-continuation-of-mercury-partnership/, as are Polydor & Interscope who now distribute her records.
