LOTR

Why compare with LOTR? LOTR's languages are FAR more developed than Dune's, FH didn't actually focus on lingustics at all but rather on how languages can be used as tools. JRRT invented his languages and fully described htem.

JRR's languages were not always fully described - only Quenya and Sindarin could be described as that.

More importantly, I think Dune beat LOTR to the punch as far as precedence goes; Dune was popular enough during syndication in 1963 in the US, and while Fellowship was published in 1954 in the UK, I understood that it took a very long time for LOTR to become a hit or even be pirated in the US. --Gwern (contribs) 16:17 29 April 2010 (GMT)
