editAre there any Language regulators like Kanak Language Academy?--Kaiyr (talk) 22:17, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
- No, there isn't. -- Womtelo (talk) 09:47, 13 February 2017 (UTC).
Languages of Solomon Islands
editThis article only describes the language of the country "Solomon Islands", and does not mention the languages of the archipelago (e.g. in Bougainville). Let's move the article to "Languages of the Solomon Islands" to be in line with the other articles "Languages of..." which relate to the countries? --Hanzlan (talk) 16:50, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
- I agree. This should be about the country. -- Womtelo (talk) 00:13, 8 December 2023 (UTC).
- No objection to this, actually it's a good idea, but this article does cover Bougainville, which, of course, is part of PNG and the Bougainville languages are not covered in Languages of Papua New Guinea, so we'd have to sort that first. Also, the boundary between PNG and Solomons is a colonial creation that never reflected the cultures of the area. The south of Bougainville and the Shortlands/Choiseul areas of Solomons share the same culture and language across what has become an arbitrary border. If changed, it should move to Languages of Solomon Islands rather than Languages of the Solomon Islands of course but let's fix the new areas first, I'll leave that to others because I don't know too much about the languages in Bougainville or PNG.
