Wrong photo

edit

Oops - I added the wrong photo, I actually have another of Hes hall from around the other side of the lake near Langy B-Block and mixed then up!. I don't really see a problem with three or four photos on this article - I will do the same with the other colleges when I have time to get the pics (I was losing the light when I took the last set, so couldn't finish the job!). Wikipedia is not limited by size, so as long as the pictures are relevent there is no harm in leaving them in. If it was ten then I might agree that its too many for the page, but then they could be shifted into a linked in pictures page as I have seen elsewhere - in general its better not to remove content, as you don't know what might happen in future with the evolution of an article. I've seen less notable articles with more photos (minor train stations and the like) so I don't think its a problem! I have some more general campusy pics too that I can add to the University page. Happy to discuss this further if you like. take care Mammal4 17:02, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

What I would recommond is you pick the best one or two and link to the images on wikicommons. Save them there and categorise them. For instance under http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/York%2C_England The route is then open to dump them back in when the article is large enough to properly handle them Pluke 20:14, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sure, thats an idea. I certainly don't think that 4 is too many photos for one article, even one as small as this one - most Cambridge colleges have between one and 4 photos on their pages. Alternatively we could dump one onto the main York Uni page which is a bit photo negative. maybe having four photos at langwith will encourage wikipedians from the other colleges to improve their photo content! Recent removal of "non-notable people"

edit

This page was recently purged of all "non-notable people".

It is expected that this type of page is dominated by "people"; because that is the nature of university colleges and JCRCs (please see the pages for the other York colleges for reference).

In leu of simply re-inserting the names, I have linked to the current members via the college's student website, and tabulated the recent history of what forms the "executive branch" of the committee (or the "top three") as far back as I have records for.

I think this is a fair compromise in terms of keeping this article encyclopedic, but also readable.

I have also revamped the whole page, spliting it into sections that will, hopefully, allow for the article to evolve over time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by University-7845120 (talkcontribs) 15:50, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Return of the College Exec

edit

I have restored the table featuring the list of the college exec. This is a comparable level of detail with other York JCRC pages, please refer to them. Many other colleges from UK universities choose to name far more people, including the current committee memebers; however, the approach that Langwith has taken here fits well with the wikipedia Notability guidelines, particularly:

"...a list within an article of past school presidents can contain all past presidents, not just those who are independently notable."

If people would like this to be extended to remove the "Vice Chair" column, then please feel free to engage in this edit. However, it is the tradition in Langwith that these three form the "power three" consitutionally.

As a side note, if anyone viewing this page has names to add to help us extend this list as far as we can it would be greatly appreciated - Langwith has had a JCRC Chair every year since the 60s! — Preceding unsigned comment added by University-7845120 (talkcontribs) 07:41, 25 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Outdated Article

edit

I just thought I'd mention that this article, almost in it's entirety, is now outdated. Langiwth College has adopted an entirely new location with the University on Heslington East (a new campus a short walk away from the Heslington West). "Old Langiwth" and all its facilities are now part of Derwent College. As this article is low importance, I would suggest maybe editing all the relevant material of the article and working into the Derwent College article until somebody with the time, effort and knowledge of this subject makes the changes to it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.32.128.14 (talkcontribs) 02:25, 9 November 2012‎ (UTC)Reply

General update 2014

edit

Just done a bit of a general clean-up. Hopefully new article reflects the fact Langwith's moved over to Hes East. Got rid of some of the unnecessary references to individuals. Hopefully this article is a bit more suitable for encyclopedia format. Trying to get some updated photos up pronto. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Langwithsa (talkcontribs) 00:09, 31 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
