Defaultsort?
editWhat is the rationale for the defaultsort being set to sort to "P" rather than "L"? - {{DEFAULTSORT:Portrait, Lansdowne}} KConWiki (talk) 16:09, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
White house copy?
editI do not know why the image of the White House Copy is used, when a just as good image is available of the original at [1]. Alexschmidt711 (talk) 21:02, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
OK, the White House copy is higher resolution. But apart from that, why should we use the copy as the main image, as the original's resolution is good enough? Alexschmidt711 (talk) 21:14, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
Reynolds Foundation
editI'm going to change the wording about the Reynolds Foundation "sacrifice". As a charitable organization, The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation exists to give money to causes it deems valuable. So although it may fit the dictionary definition - "to dispose of (goods, property, etc.) regardless of profit" - the word "sacrifice" is, I think, incorrect. The Lansdowne portrait is an iconic life-size portrait of George Washington painted by Gilbert Stuart in 1796. It depicts the 64-year-old president of the United States during his final year in office. The portrait was a gift to the former British prime minister William Petty, 1st Marquess of Lansdowne, and spent more than 170 years in England. In 1968, it was loaned to the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., and purchased by the gallery in 2001. This copy of the Lansdowne portrait, also painted by Stuart, hangs in the East Room of the White House; it was rescued by First Lady Dolley Madison during the Burning of Washington in 1814.
