Aircraft type
editI know sources are reporting this was an ATR-72, but the Voice of Russia photograph shows the aircraft to be a MA-60. Compare the nose of that aircraft with that of an ATR-72. Mjroots (talk) 14:12, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- Just a heads-up - I don't believe the photo used on top of the article is the actual aircraft that crashed. The time of day doesn't match, not to mention the depth of the Mekong and the photos underneath - so I suggest we wait until we get some concrete information. Skycycle (talk) 14:17, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- Pprune confirm that VoR used the wrong photo. Other reliable sources also now saying ATR-72, mea culpa. Mjroots (talk) 14:27, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
If you enlarge the image you see that the plane pictured is RDPL-34173 and that it is an ATR 72-500. Lao Airlines had, before this crash, four ATR 72-500s and two ATR 72-600s. If the article is correct, they now have only one ATR 72-600. The picture is clearly not that of the plane that crashed, but the caption ("One of 6 ATR-72 aircraft operated by Lao Airlines") is (or was before the crash) correct. Wikifan2744 (talk) 23:29, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, there are no images of Lao Airlines ATR-72-600s available at Commons. There's little difference between the two so the -500 will suffice for now. Mjroots (talk) 18:24, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Possible cause of this accident?
editSeems that the aircraft was quite new; has there been any indication of a possible cause of this crash? regards, DPdH (talk) 16:21, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
- Added possible cause as per accident investigation report, via an article in "Seven News", citing source. Regards, DPdH (talk) 00:07, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
