Rename article?

This article should be renamed to "Laotian cuisine" or "Cuisine of Laos". Rather than "Lao cuisine". There's a slight difference between the words Laotian and Lao. Cuisine of Laos/Laotian cuisine means the cuisine of the country Laos. Whereas Lao cuisine means cuisine of the Lao ethnic group. Obviously, these two things are similar and related concepts. However, there's a strict precedent in Wikipedia for each country to have its own cuisine page. This page should be about the cuisine of the country of Laos. This is largely a matter of wording, the content seems all fine. It's simply the case that this article is using the wrong wording. This article means to be about the cuisine of Laos, but it's using the wrong adjective. Apples&Manzanas (talk) 15:22, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

On second thoughts, I think I'm fine to leave it as Lao cuisine, because it is the more common parlance. I'll simply specify the alternatives in the article. Apples&Manzanas (talk) 17:26, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

Most of the article was copyied from http://www.galanga.com/bookReview/dxayavong.html which is a copyright infringement. I removed all the paragraphs which have this problem. andy 08:08 Apr 16, 2003 (UTC)

I cut the statement that Lao cuising is from Northeast Thailand and Laos; my sources inform me that there are differences, although they are similar. I'll add something in the article to reflect that. Markalexander100 07:22, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Pho is the Vietnamese name for a traditional, Southern style noodle soup, but Lao people, like their neighbours to the South and West, generally refer to it by its Teochew dialect name, gwadteow. Also, there is very very little difference between Lao and Isaan food, as most Isaan people are ethnic Lao residing in Thailand. ^NO WE DON'T, WE CALL IT PHO (pronounced fuh)^ btw, it should be written as laap in this article because it's about LAO CUISINE

Hmm I don't understand. Pho is not the same as gwadteow. Gwadteow just means noodles generaly pho would mean Vietnamese beef noodle soop. So Pho would fit under the subcatagory of gwadteow. Further I don't understand what that has to do with laap cuz that's an entirely different dish.

Once again people are confused because the Lao version of what is being referred to as Pho here is not pho at all to Vietnamese, but rather Vietnamese Hu Tieu. The same applies to the Cambodian Kuyteav. It's pretty obvious considering the etymology of the words.

I think this confusion can be helped by clarifying that Pho is a word of Vietnamese origin, introduced to Laos along with the beef rice noodle dish. In Laos, the dish evolved in its own course. Laotians also use this word to call other rice noodle dishes that are not similar to Vietnamese.

Phak tam ye

Does anyone know what the Lao vegetable "phak tam ye" is? Badagnani 21:00, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Khao kam

Can someone explain the rice wine called "khao kam" or "lao khao kam," which was described in the New York Times as "pink and fizzy"? Badagnani 22:49, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Lao-Lao

There are some questions at the Lao-Lao article. Anyone with knowledge about this form of rice wine/liquor, please contribute there. Badagnani 22:17, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Isan food is Lao

There are a few slight differences between the Lao food of Isan vs. the Lao food of Thailand, most notably that Isan food lacks the French and Vietnamese influences, such as baguettes and calling noodle soup pho, and Isan food being a part of Thailand has been influenced by Thai food.

At the most traditional level, however, the foods are the same, but Isan food is spicier. Most of the characteristic Lao dishes, such asthe papaya salad, sup normai, laab, and jaew are the same. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nintala (talkcontribs) 14:55, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Lao Poppadoms

Recently in the food market in Luang Prabang I bought what look a bit like Indian poppadoms but appear to have (perhaps) peanuts and other things in them. I haven't fried them yet, but I wonder if anyone knows more about them and their origin. Vietnamese cuisine's influence on Laos

It looks like Wikicentral, a Laotian cultural warrior and a nationalist, has removed all references to Vietnamese foods in Laos. That is just sad. So sad. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.129.53.180 (talk) 01:54, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
