editCan this place be verified to exist? The content was added in June 2007 as a user's only contribution ever. Googling for "Lappi Pakistan" or "Lappi Punjab" only gives hits about articles that mention the Finnish municipality or the Finnish province (which are entirely separate, and for reasons I cannot begin to fathom, share a name), and Pakistan or Punjab entirely separately. - Lapiwala exists and the page has been moved accordingly. Pahari Sahib 19:11, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- Good, thanks. What is the difference between the names "Lappi" and "Lapwala"? Is "Lapwala" the only official name? I would move Lappi, Finland as the main Lappi article, but common Finnish usage is preventing me. Most Finns think of the Lapland Province when they hear "Lappi". The municipality of Lappi, despite having "Lappi" as its official name both in Finnish and in English, is far less known, even in Finland. The incoming links here on the English Wikipedia support it. Very few, if any, Finns have ever heard of this Pakistani place. I had never heard of it until I saw this article. JIP | Talk 19:03, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Lappi is just the colloquial short form, a bit like how people say 'Pindi for Rawalpindi. Pahari Sahib 19:18, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. This makes me more and more tempted to have the municipality of Lappi, Finland as the main article and everything else as a hatnote. But, as I said, even though the municipality is the only thing in the world whose official English name is "Lappi", by far the most Finns think of the Lapland Province, which is nowhere near the municipality of Lappi, when they hear the name. This condition, where the official use of a name directly contradicts with the colloquial use, forces me to treat both on equal terms. And thus, I can just as well mention this Pakistani place, even though pretty much no one in Finland has ever heard of it, in the process. JIP | Talk 19:35, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
