Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to 2 external links on Larry Norman. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Both links are dead in the archive as well. Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:11, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Reliability of sources

I'm sorry. I erred when I stated here that there was a previous discussion here. I started a discussion here about the reliability of the content on thetruthaboutlarrynorman.com, but it was only in relation to a single article. That discussion about the site was held at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard. This noticeboard is where people debate whether sources can or cannot be used on all of Wikipedia based on the reliable sources guideline and the verifiability policy. The discussion is now in the archives: Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 165#www.thetruthaboutlarrynorman.com and www.failedangle.com. The conclusion was that neither website is reliable and they should not be used on Wikipedia even to claim that the sites exist. If a new discussion needs to be had, it should be on that noticeboard, not here. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:40, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

Walter, reading the discussion you posted, there was no such "consensus", just some people saying "it's good" and others saying "it's not good". I cannot edit that page to anything there, so here's my two cents:

Let me see if I understand your stance here - a friend of Larry Norman, using actual hard evidence, is not a legit source, but a movie with NO evidence by people quoted from multiple sources as wanting to destroy him *is*? I have a problem with that, and honestly, your reverting my adding that source strikes me as vandalism itself. You are effectively editing the article to provide only one side of the story, and strategically remove the other. That's wrong, and it's contrary to the point of Wikipedia, or ANY such reference, to provide ALL the facts and sources, not just those we agree with.

Incidentally, if we're discarding sources on the basis of someone being the person's official biographer, then there's a much deeper problem in policy around here than this article.

If we cannot present the one, then we absolutely should not be presenting the other. Therefore, either the link in question should be included, or the movie section needs to be removed or heavily reworded to ensure that the entry cannot be construed as stating the movie is in any way accurate. Since you seem unmoved on the one point, I've taken the liberty to preserve honesty and do that much. You can at least leave that.

You can't edit the archive, no, but you would open a new request. Point to the addition you made. And calling him his "personal biographer" is a tad misleading. He's one man's mouthpiece. As for "Honesty", that's a song by Stryper and Mr. Norman never sang it, to the best of my knowledge. Walter Görlitz (talk) 04:58, 1 July 2017 (UTC)
Sorry again. That was "Honestly (Stryper song)". Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:00, 1 July 2017 (UTC)
I was referring to the claim made in that discussion that it was inaccurate because the author was Norman's "personal biographer," (and, actually, he is his official biographer) although even calling him a "mouthpiece" here shows a lot prejudice in this.
Anyhow, re-reading that conversation this morning, I have my doubts the discussion there would go any further than this one has. On a letter-of-the-rules basis, anyhow, the site is self-published (mark against) by the official biographer using sources from estate (mark for), and those two points make it quite complicated. So, as long as my edit about the movie's validity being in question stand, I'll be content enough to leave it alone.
Incidentally...where'd you get the thing about Stryper? I never even brought that up. CodeMouse92 (talk) 17:44, 1 July 2017 UTC
