editJust to note for people who support the name "Hangman Creek" rather than "Latah Creek"; Latah is the native name of the creek and has been that way for pretty much from when Native Americans first discovered the creek to 1959, when the USGS changed it to Hangman. Hangman was previously only an unofficial nickname for the creek, used mainly by residents in the area. The County of Spokane, Washington State and Idaho refer to the creek as "Latah". UPDATE: Also, because of the size of the creek (many waterways far less than 60 miles long are called "rivers") the adjective used to describe Latah Creek in this article is "river", not "creek". If anyone contests that (though I doubt it) please post here. Shannontalk SIGN! 01:25, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Why not call it a *mighty river* while we're at it? Or why stop there with revisionism - why not rechristen it a "run" like certain other regions call their creeks (i.e., VA)? Latah/Hangman is called a creek - it has always been called a creek, and no one in common usage (or otherwise), be it in maps or local usage have ever referred to it as a river (because it's not a river).
