This species has so many common names worldwide that I think it most appropriate that it be listed under its botanical name --nixie 13:28, 12 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Poisonous??

edit

Would it not be prudent to mention it is poisonous if eaten over a long period somewhere near the top of the page? Perhaps next to where it says "human consumption". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.149.12.32 (talk) 16:26, 14 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Right. This article makes it look like food. It is a horrible, insidious poison.

It is a food, but it is a dangerous food to eat for a prolonged period, and the current volume of research frequently deals with this aspect of the plant, so, per your comments, I added a sentence to the introductory paragraph. Feel free to edit it yourself. --AfadsBad (talk) 23:38, 7 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

International Year of Pulses

edit

It would be a worthy goal of the International Year of Pulses if resources could be brought to breeding types of this food crop without the toxins. Lathyrus sativus without toxin could reduce hunger and protein deficiency in the Third World. Nuggets of Knowledge (talk) 09:07, 24 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Can anyone explain the relevance of the link to Kinako under See also? OK, so it is another flour from a legume, but other than that I think it should be deleted. JeremyCherfas (talk) 09:03, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
