Re: removal of "In popular culture" section
editI don't oppose popular culture sections per se, just those (especially referring to games), that have zero content actually related to the subject of the article, other than a character who has the same name but otherwise no more than the barest connection to the historical figure. In my opinion, if the added content can't meet that criterion, surely it should say something about how the fictitious character relates to the subject's continuing place in culture. If it can't meet that criterion, it should at least be sourced. If someone can provide a source, I won't challenge its reintroduction to the article (even if I have to hold my nose)

- There is a guidance essay Wikipedia:"In popular culture" content. This says:
- "In popular culture" sections should contain verifiable information with sources that establish its significance.
- This is a good guideline. It should not be enough to have a reliable source that says that Buffy kills vampires with a stake made of wood to justify putting a reference to that in the article on wood. The source should say why this is significant to wood.
- Similarly, that a character in a video game is called Laureano de Torres y Ayala may or may not be significant to the video game, but is not obviously significant to Laureano de Torres y Ayala. There needs to be a reliable source not only for it being true (if it is true), but also showing its significance to Laureano de Torres y Ayala.-- Toddy1 (talk) 16:15, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you, Toddy1. I was trying to be diplomatic (hoping no one would come up with a source) and not disrespect an admin's advice, but you are right, and I completely agree with your points. As another editor said elsewhere, "Articles are about their subjects, not about everything peripherally related." Carlstak (talk) 16:44, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
- I shortened the description of Torres in popular culture. It was too long, unnecessarily detailed, and most of the information was lack a source. However, the connection between Torres in history and Torres in the game is more than them just having the same name.RaCJ1325 (talk) 16:52, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
