Does Lawnswood Exist at all?
editI was born and live in West Park very close the the area of Leeds described in this article and I am afraid that I believe this article has created an area of Leeds that simply no longer exists as a residential area having being subsumed into parts of Adel, West Park and other surounding areas as houses were built on the former wooded land (well before my time!). The area of Lawnswood now consists solely of the Lawnswood Cemetery and Crematorium, the Sports Fields now owned by the University of Leeds (which were previously the property of Leeds Grammar School) and the YMCA. Which are all in a triangle of partially wooded land bordered by Otley Road, Otley Old Road and New Adel Lane. Thus Lawnswood contains no actual residents (well none that are alive at any rate).
This is backed up by the fact the Post Office referred to in the article is (as even admitted in the article) called Adel Post Office, Lawnswood School is in West Park (http://www.lawnswood-portal.co.uk/Contact%20Us/default.aspx), The Lawnswood Arms pub is now in Adel as although the main part of Adel is on the other side of Otley Road Adel does extend past the Lawnswood Arms as evidenced by the fact that Adel Methodist Church is located directly behind the Lawnswood Arms. Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
editCyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Multiple inaccuracies & other issues in article - suggest a warning (or similar) is added
editThis article, although not long, contains numerous inaccuracies, many resulting from an erroneous understanding of what constitutes Lawnswood, hence the incorrect and overwhelming inclusion of information that properly relates to neighbouring areas. Other inaccuracies result from information being years out of date, and some sections are of little, if any, value containing unreferenced statements of what appears to be personal opinion.
I wonder whether a warning box, or similar, could be added at the top of the page to indicate that the article is unreliable, contains multiple inaccuracies, and needs extensive editing?
I did consider trying to edit it myself, but my unfamiliarity with Wikipedia processess and prototols coupled with the degree of changes / deletions needed to correct just the bits that I know are wrong decided me against this for the moment.
Some examples:
the map of the boundaries is incorrect, including all of the northern end which is in Adel, not Lawnswood. There's no citation for the boundaries drawn and the inclusion of some other areas also looks suspect. It appears to be just someone"s idea of what Lawnswood includes.
the first picture (the Lawnswood Arms) is in Adel, not Lawnswood.
Golden Acre Park (the second picture) does not separate Lawnswood from Bramhope - Adel is between them.
Lawnswood does not border Holt Park (again Adel is between them).
the housing pictured is in Adel.
under 'Amenities', the photo is incorrectly labelled as Lawnswood Co-op and Post Office. Adel Post Office is called that because it is in Adel, not Lawnswood, as are most of the rest of the shops and amenities referred to.
the bus numbers are wrong.
Greg Mulholland has not been the MP since 2017.
the DWP buildings referred to are long since demolished and replaced by housing.
under 'Sport' the 'Support' section is just unreferenced speculation on the local teams that residents support, for example 'most people in Lawnswood support ... Leeds United. '
A poorly written article with this many inaccuracies remaining unacknowledged does Wikipedia no favours. It has certainly made me reconsider the likely accuracy of other articles where I have no existing knowledge of their subject.
I note that there is already a comment here (from 13 years ago) in which concerns over its accuracy were expressed.
This article would be better with most of its content simply deleted. A warning at the top of the page as suggested above would appear to be a good first step if possible. Purplesandpiper (talk) 11:38, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
