Fair use rationale for Image:Lawrencespivak.jpg

edit

Image:Lawrencespivak.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot 05:59, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The American Mercury

edit

Section 1.1 Lawrence E. Spivak#The American Mercury and the first part of section 1.2 Meet the Press contain information that either needs correction or needs incorporation in the magazine and publisher articles The American Mercury and Mercury Publications.

Here we say Spivak became business manager for the magazine in 1934, purchased it in 1939, edited it from 1944 until he sold it in 1950. And he "sold his interest in Mercury Publications in 1954."

  • In the magazine article, he purchased it in January 1935, as the "longtime business manager".
  • In the publisher article "Spivak entered publishing in 1933 as the business manager of The American Mercury, and two years later, he became the magazine's publisher".
The articles should be reconciled by corrections and expansions as appropriate.

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Moved as proposed. After much-extended time for discussion, there has been discussion without specific objection to the proposal, and at least one comment suggesting that the proposed target reflects the subjects usage during the most significant period of their notable activities. Lawrence E. SpivakLawrence SpivakWP:PRIMARYTOPIC because there are no other notable people named Lawrence Spivak at this time. Also, WP:SELFIDENTITY - Spivak did not use his middle initial when introducing himself on Meet the Press for instance at the beginning of this 1973 episode of MTP. As such, the media usually skipped his middle initial except in the most formal of circumstances, see this 1991 C-SPAN interview (1:00 of video), 1994 Washington Post obituary headlined "Lawrence Spivak, journalist, dies", and Associated Press story also from 1994 that begins: "Lawrence Spivak, originator of NBC’s “Meet the Press” and pioneer of television’s Sunday news show format..."
