LeDroit Park Today
editLeDroit Park - what is it like today? It seems economically downtrodden and fairly crime-ridden, but my sources aren't necessarily all that reliable. Could someone please fill us in on the present state of the neighborhood? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.163.191.248 (talk) 18:35, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Today LeDroit Park is a diverse but economically struggling community. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.163.191.248 (talk) 18:31, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
The above question cannot be answered in any sort of terse manner. Such an assessment is extremely complex and subject to all sorts of bias, interpretation, .... There crime, everything from muggings, murders, theft, and drug dealing. Not as bad as some parts of DC, worse than some other parts. Houses and condos in the area are selling well for X00,000 to X,000,000 of dollars. I bet the income distribution is a bit bimodal, most older residents seeming quite poor while finding a newer resident earning less than 100,000 per year will be very rare. More stores, restaurants and coffee shops seem to be opening or moving into the area. Raymo853
- I agree however the crime at the store pictured in the photo might be worth mentioning. It got some major attention when the owner posted a youtube video of him getting robbed at gun point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7QgKzwFJJs It's been robbed many times, and Mayor Fenty has put a bit of focus on the area in the last year. Looking at other neighborhood articles in DC this one is lacking. Others have demographic and economic data, while this one is mostly historical. Lastly I do agree that this and the LDP historical district article should be merged. 12.4.17.97 (talk) 17:10, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
- The demographic / cultural question is not extremely complex, though it does require good evidence instead of jumping to conclusions, and it might require some time invested in objective research. A negative statement like "cannot be answered" is rather dogmatic and probably impossible to prove. I don't think the question is any more difficult that defining the culture of Selma, Alabama, when MLK visited Selma -- or that of Cicero, Illinois, at the time of MLK. Crime statistics should be available. A quick internet search brought up WaPo on LeDroit, though things could have changed a lot since 2002:

Le Droit or LeDroit
editI'm pretty sure it is one word, my source being the gate in the photo. --Jazzcowboy (talk) 22:05, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
LeDroit appears to be the correct form. The organizations I found using it as a single word include: DC City gov, National Park Service, the local civic associaiton, Howard U, --Raymo853 14:50, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Is it July, 1888 or July, 1988 ?? a source is needed
editArticle says:
- "In July 1888, students tore down the fences that separated the neighborhood in protest of its discriminating policies."
But there is no citation, no source. I wonder if 1888 is a typo for 1988?
One thought:
- The chapter by Ronald M. Johnson in Washington at Home (2nd ed. Johns Hopkins University Press, 2010, p. 231) 231 elaborates on this--as more complicated than just one event. Endnotes there to contemporary newspaper articles show the conflict ran from 1886 to 1891. I'll try to reword a little.Johannes der Taucher (talk) 12:12, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
I suggest that the nature of the LeDroit area needs better demographic description. Is it a black area with gangs & hatred for white people? This consideration is important for the murder of Seth Rich near this neighborhood. Was it a hate crime, a beating not intended to be a murder? (PeacePeace (talk) 20:48, 23 September 2019 (UTC))
