I note that an unregistered user has replaced the image of the town hall with a skyline from Wikimedia commons (which has some copyright issues). I think I preferred the town hall.Chemical Engineer (talk) 15:26, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

So did I. And furthermore, the Town Hall had alt text (essential if this article is ever going to get to GA/FA), whereas the skyline's alt text is (incorrectly) just the same as the caption. No alt text for the Corn Exchange pic either. Annoying. --GuillaumeTell 21:30, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
The Town Hall is back. Chemical Engineer (talk) 22:16, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Obviously the copyright issues need to be addressed, but that collection of images was far more useful than the Town Hall- which really does not represent Leeds. It does not represent the shopping scene, or the financial scene, or the nightlife scene. The Civic Hall would be more appropriate. Having said that, a skyline image would be far more suitable as it is the most obvious representation of a city. It is not about what we prefer, it is about what most accurately represents the city. This should be an informative encyclopedia, not a gallery. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.122.199.160 (talk) 22:47, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Cultural history / people buried in Leeds

The interesting section recently added as "Cultural history" seemed to overstate Pablo Fanque's significance for the city, so I've removed it. But I've created a new article Woodhouse Cemetery, linked from the Univ of Leeds article (and from St George's Fields) and also a section "Not from Leeds but buried in Leeds" in the List of people from Leeds. I hope that other editors agree with this way to show a posthumous Leeds connection. I also added that list as a "See also" from the main article: I know it's in the template but I think it merits a distinct link. So if there are other notable people sourceably buried in the city, please add them to the newly-created section of the list. Unless there's some better way to handle them? Its good work and a workable solution to the issue.
