Revision of lead paragraphs

edit

My changes began with an attempt to remove the characterization of Allentown and Bethlehem as the county's "two largest cities." Besides implying there are other cities, the sentence was inaccurate in that it gave the impression all of Bethlehem is located in Lehigh County. Working in the difference led to the inclusion of the other municipalities. The choppiness of the two paragraphs then became apparent, so it made sense to combine the references to the county's location into the lead sentence and place the historical background in its own paragraph. Of course, there are dozens of ways of flipping these things around, so further improvements are welcome. Other changes/additions included getting rid of "parts of Northampton County" because it sounds as if more than one part was carved out to form Lehigh; past tense works better with the population because this was the population in 2000 and the population is now larger; Allentown's ranking as the state's third largest city is notable; and including a settlement date reflects the county's history better than using the incorporation date by itself. Where are History and Economy?

I was surprised to find these sections missing. They would have contained the main information I was seeking about this county. I can scarcely recall seeing another county page without historical or economic information. I hope someone will soon provide them. 98.218.102.71 (talk) 15:37, 28 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
