Origin of "Engineer"
editI dispute the story that the nickname "Engineer" was related to the railroad and not the original engineering orientation of the school. It appears to have originated from an un-footnoted Morning Call newspaper article in 1995.
In the 1960's, Lehigh had a logo of a giant non-railroad type Engineer wearing a surveyors field hat and engineer boots peering through a surveyor's transit while a Lockheed Constellation flew over him and a streamlined diesel train ran under him. The LU bookstore (then on the second floor of the UC) sold these as car decals and as a patch to be sewn on the back of varsity jackets. I'm going to look through the published histories of Lehigh to see if I can find further reference to it. No one wore railroad caps or anything like it back then. GCW50 , 24 March 2012 (UTC)
I've found a copy of the Lehigh surveying engineer logo from the 50's-60's. Where can I post it? I don't own the copyright. 16:23, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- The Lehigh Lashing - the record-setting victory over Penn State
editIn the midst of the Nittany Lions huge loss to Ohio State on October 26, 2013, I was attempting to find out what their most lopsided loss in football was. It turns out it was a either a 106 or 107 to nothing loss to Lehigh in 1889, depending on which source you check. This is a nice writeup here to work from: http://www.blackshoediaries.com/2010/6/28/651622/penn-state-history-the-lehigh
I'll leave it to someone affiliated with Lehigh to write this up, but there should be something on it here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.125.175.160 (talk) 16:28, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
