Can someone clarify "only remaining lehr'? I don't think that is true with a broad definition of lehr, there must be a more specific definition that applies here.

How the lehr got its name

I spent a summer working at a glass factory. I have always been told that the term "lehr" comes from the German word for a teacher. The German word for instructor/professor/teacher is "lehrer". When the glass is placed on the conveyer, it is "taught" by the lehr to not easily break. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a good source to cite this.
