Television first
editI know this article is about American tv, but in places it reads like the kiss was a worldwide first. I don't know when the very first same-sex kiss in any soap opera anwhere in the world was, but the first in the UK was ten years earlier in December 1993 on Brookside, which had an early evening slot. Is it worth mentioning this in the article? The actresses were Anna Friel and Nicola Stephenson.86.147.160.133 (talk) 13:57, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- More information: the Brookside lesbian kiss was voted no 25 in the Channel 4 100 Greatest Christmas Moments [1] and there's this [2] from Media, Gender and Identity by David Gauntlett, which seems to suggest that it was the first worldwide soap lesbian kiss. I'm no specialist on LBGT/gender studies, but this info might be useful to someone ... 86.147.160.133 (talk) 14:10, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- I made sure to state the word "American" whenever the wording "first lesbian kiss in soap opera history" is mentioned or whenever it is mentioned that it was a first for the audience, unless it is in direct reference to the All My Children audience...so I do not really see how in places it reads like the kiss was a worldwide first. A few people may leave with that impression, but they should realize that the word "American" is there. After all, it is silly to put the word "American" every time we mention the soap opera audience, when people really should get it by now. I thank IP 86.147.160.133 for putting the word "American" in a spot I missed, though.
- As for the Brookside lesbian kiss, I would say, yes, there is room for it in this article. I know where to put it, too. Flyer22 (talk) 20:30, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, I put a little information about the lesbian Brookside kiss in the 2003 kiss section. Flyer22 (talk) 21:51, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
