POV tag
editMy problem re: POV is mainly with the tone. It reads like a warmly delivered eulogy rather than an encyclopedia article.
In terms of content, I know next to nothing about this area, but I would guess that his ideas were controversial--not universally accepted--if this is the case, the article should discuss criticisms as well as praise. Pan Dan 14:09, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Two important points (though rather connected): 1. his influence on the Belgian royal family (Opus Dei) and (for literally closer contact): 2. transfering the archbishopry from Mechelen de facto to Brussels, officially becoming the Archbishopry Mechelen - Brussels; his successor seems to have returned the de facto seat to Mechelen but the official double seat (and thus two archbishopric cathedrals) remain. — SomeHuman 8 Oct2006 18:08 (UTC)
This seems kind of idiotic as a POV intervention. Some people are well liked. Some are not. Should Hitler's page be laudatory? Suenens is largely well liked. The page is open. People can add. POV as regards tone seems very, very strange. Rewrite, removed adjectives. Do what you must. But flag it as POV issues? Come on.
Again, the second intervention, write something about it. Don't add to a POV intervention with badly worded notes that is purely speculation. Opus Dei and the royal family of Belgium; sounds interesting. So what does this have to do with Suenens? Add something. This seems like slinging mud and hoping something will stick. [Random user: 9-Nov-2008]
"voice against orthodoxy" seems to be a pretty strong accusation to be made without citation! Maybe a different word could have been chosen that doesn't imply that Cardinal Suenens was heretical?
Also, aggiornamento does not mean the same thing as liberalism.
This sort of confusion might be appropriate for a religious discussion forum, but seems inappropriate for an encyclopedia. Ifdef (talk) 03:08, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
Legacy in Belgium
editThe article should maybe better explain Suenens' legacy in Belgium. The Church in that country has become very secularized, with the situation of the clergy being among the most dire in the Western world. Although Suenens does have an important following among the current episcopal hierarchy, Belgium has seen much dissent towards the Holy See, along with the Netherlands.
