Talk:Leon Stynen

Latest comment: 1 year ago by Amitchell125 in topic GA Review
Former good article nomineeLeon Stynen was a Art and architecture good articles nominee, but did not meet the good article criteria at the time. There may be suggestions below for improving the article. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake.

Lead section / infobox

edit
  • The lead section section does not “stand on its own as a concise overview of the article's topic” (MOS:LEAD), and needs to be expanded.

Additionally,

  • Link architect (here and in the infobox); urban planner.
  • He has been called one of Belgium's greatest architects of the 20th-century - This statement is by a single author, and the text should reflect this, e.g. ‘According to the British online architecture, interiors and design magazine Dezeen, he is one of Belgium's greatest 0th-century architects’.
  • Why does the infobox only name him as an architect?
  • Is he Leon or Léon? This needs to be made consistent throughout the article.

Early life

edit
  • Almost a quarter of a century of Stynen’s life is described in a section containing two small paragraphs, most of which is about a single war memorial. Is no more information known?

Additionally,

  • Unlink World War I (MOS:OL).
  • His father - Léon Stynen’s father, as this is the first time he is mentioned in the main article. Is no information known about his mother or his siblings?
  • (Herdenkingsmonument 1914–1918) – it is unclear what is means.
  • A total of 16 designs were submitted and Stynen's was accepted – repeats what is already written, or is excessively detailed.
  • a sculptor named – ‘the sculptor’.
  • Link plaque (Commemorative plaque).
  • which Dumont's name is misspelled "Dupont" – a detail not needed here.

Career

edit

The review of this section is incomplete, as more research of his career is required (see comments of sources below).

  • There is nothing here about his personal life (e.g. if he married, or his death).
edit
  • Only the BP-building Antwerp is mentioned in the text - the image of this building should be placed in the Career section near to the place where it is referred to.
  • The images (other than the one mentioned above) are purely decorative, as they are not referred to in the text. As they appear in Wikimedia Commons, this section and its images should be removed.

Books about Leon Stynen

edit
  • Laurys’s book is listed here, but not used in the article. There will be information in a biography of this kind to include in the article, but hasn’t been.
  • A quick search online reveals unused references to Stynen. It seems as if more research is needed.

References

edit
  • Link Dezeen Magazine (Dezeen) and put in italics.

Failing the article at this point

edit

Failing the article now, as it appears to have been nominated well before it was ready to be. It has an incomplete lead section, and lacks information that should be included (e.g. his personal life, but possible others of his life as well). The biography (and available other sources) should be used as references before the article is re-nominated. Amitchell125 (talk) 06:29, 21 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
