LEONID A. UMANSKY, manager of engineering for the industrial engineering department of the General Electric Co., Schenectady, N.Y., has been awarded the 1955 Edison medal, which is administered by the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. The award will be presented on 31 Jan. at a special session of the 5-day winter general meeting of the institute in the Hotel Statler, New York.

Umansky Receives Edison Award for Achievement

Leonid. A. Umansky, retired manager at the General Electric Co., yesterday received the 1955 Thomas A. Edison medal "for his outstanding contributions to the electrification of industry.

Presentation of the award was announced at the winter general meeting of Electrical Engineers in New York City.

Umansky, who lives at 1400 Keyes avenue, retired from GE last July after managing the industrial engineering department for five years.

Mr. Umansky was sent to the Soviet Union in 1931 as a representative of the company's International Division.

Winner of the GE Coffin award in 1938, Umansky holds 18 patents. A native from Russia, he was educated at the St. Petersburg Polytecnic Institute an came to this country in 1915.
