Is there a reason this isn't at "Lesser Black-backed Gull"? Vicki Rosenzweig 14:17, 19 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Umm, isn't the back a bit pale in this photo? (A herring gull maybe?) cheers, Casliber | talk | contribs 09:18, 24 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The bird in the main picture is a Yellow-legged Gull L michahellis! Ruud Altenburg

WikiProject Status

edit

There was a reference on this page to WikiProject Spain, which doesn't seem to make sense, so I have removed it. MJD. 82.30.249.52 09:21, 22 September 2007 (UTC).Reply

races

edit

At the Northern Sea in Germany there are colonies of Larus fuscus (intermedius?) as one would expect, since this race lives in Denmark and the Netherlands (source: Encarta 2008). 85.178.221.197 (talk) 18:39, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Encarta is a tertiary source, when this page gets expanded, a good secondary source will be a better reference. Casliber (talk · contribs) 19:30, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Urban?

edit

I saw a few of these flying around Edinburgh city centre last month. Is this (urbanism) a common trait? If so it could go in the article, but I won't do it based on half a dozen birds in one city. Totnesmartin (talk) 22:37, 14 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Take a look at Herring_Gull#Interactions with humans. Most of that section is also true of Lesser Black-backed Gulls, in Britain at least. Both species pretty much hang around together when feeding and breed in the same places. --Kurt Shaped Box (talk) 22:44, 14 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
it's the first time I've seen urban LBBs in any numbers 9ie more than the odd one or two). I'll see what I can find online rather than my own experience. Totnesmartin (talk) 13:44, 15 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Much smaller ?

edit
Cite from article
"A confusable species in Europe is Great Black-backed Gull. The Lesser is a much smaller bird..."
Isn't just the word "smaller" better ? It is of same size and weight as the Herring Gull. It's very difficult to see the difference without the possibility of comparing, I would argue. I think that a "much smaller" bird must be obviously smaller. Boeing720 (talk) 03:24, 10 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Description section is confusing

edit

Could someone who is certain of what they're doing please organise the Description section, beginning with structured descriptions of the adult bird (sexed if required), any variants, and the juveniles. After that, it would help to have comparisons with similar species in distinct subsections. The material about the complicated taxonomy of the herring gull / lesser black-backed gull complex doesn't belong in the Description at all and might perhaps be merged into the Taxonomysection. The article on the European herring gull looks better organised than this one and might help as a pattern. Thanks.--Frans Fowler (talk) 06:09, 18 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
