Melchert has an Internet publication with the transliteration of the Lycian part of the whole thing and a translation. I'm pretty sure the transliteration is not copyrightable as anyone can transliterate - that is standard. The translation - I don't know. The thing is, I don't know whose translation is in there now. Maybe Bryce, maybe not. The author did not wish to say and when that happens it usually is original. However, we aren't making a big deal over original translations. Anybody can translate (if they know enough of the language). The two pages cited by the author are just beyond review range. Some people just seem to plan it that way so you'll have to buy the book. Well, I'm not going to buy the book. Individuals can't do that unless it is their field of interest and they want the book. We can probably get away with a sample of Melchert's translation - can we now, Craig? Remember me? but it is a long sample so my inclination is to use what is there (checking against Melchert) on the guess that it is not copyrighted somewhere else. By the way it is not 18 lines and also by the way the transcription has a long way to go. Moreover I am inclined to put the lines of translation under the text - interlineal translation - which is possible with tables. I'll be working on this. Be patient.Dave (talk) 15:30, 18 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
