In March 1894, a Lew Vanderpool of Troy got a divorce from a Rose Vanderpoole. This sounds like it could him, as Troy isn't too far north of Columbia County, New York. Also our Lew appears to have gotten married to a Gwenn (15 years his junior) in 1894.[1].
1897 article mention, is the french republic a failure.
1878 history of Colubmia county books lists a C.L. Vanderpoel b. 1858 "Artist-Penman", son of James and Lydia. [3] This match 1875 NY Census, and 1870 US Census, with them located in Hillsdale. The 1880 U.S. Census has "Chas. L." Vanderpoel living with James and Lydia K. Charles (listed age 22) is listed as an "author" and suffering from "consumption."
