edit"First Republic"
editI tried to edit the article but was redirected here. The article says that Liberia was the "first independent republic in Africa", but this is not true, there were at least 9 others existing before 1847.
-Carthage was a republic from 480 BC (Carthage and the Carthaginians, R. Bosworth Smith, p. 16)
-The Republic of Sale/Bou Regreg existed from 1627-1668 (https://web.archive.org/web/20171109022900/http://www.leconomiste.com/article/l-insolite-republique-independante-du-bouregregbripar-mouna-hachimi)
-The Boer Republics of Swellendam and Graaf-Reinet were founded in 1795 (https://www.britannica.com/place/Swellendam-historical-district-South-Africa)
-Further Boer Republics created after the Great Trek and before the Liberian declaration of independence are Zoutpansberg (1835-1864), Winburg (1836-1844), Potchefstroom (1837-1844), Winburg-Potchefstroom (1844-1848), and Natalia (1839-1843)

Natalia: https://www.britannica.com/place/Natal-historical-province-South-Africa
In addition to these, and possible others I may now know of, the Roman Republic has territory in Africa from 146 BC, though not based in Africa, was still a republic with territory in Africa.
Liberia was not the first republic in Africa no matter how you slice it. Crazy Boris (talk) 01:54, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
