IIRC, didn't the film (which as the article notes did not leave much of a mark on culture when it was released; it was near the end of the '80s teen comedy cycle anyway) cause some controversy on its original release by playing some scenes where one of its leads drove drunk for laughs? This was explained at the time by the screenwriter being Canadian and thus somehow unaware of the massive PR effort against DWI that had been going on for at least eight years in the US, but still ... somehow I don't see Canada as a place where the idea of driving while intoxicated is somehow automatically considered side-splittingly funny?
