Units

edit

I have included the units for each entry, as it can be an aid to disambiguating the term. Intensity is used differently in different fields, and authors are often vague about which meaning they intended, assuming that everyone uses the definition that is common in the author's field. Units can help the reader figure out which meaning was intended.--Srleffler (talk) 21:54, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Turn into article

edit

Since all these things are about measuring photon flows, it would be better to turn this into an article that describes the different quantities comparing them with pictures. 82.139.87.36 (talk) 11:16, 19 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

An illustrated article comparing the various photometric and radiometric quantities would be a good idea, but it would be better if that article compared all of the quantities, not just the ones that are sometimes called "intensity". The article should not replace this dab page, which is needed to distinguish between different ambiguous uses of the term "intensity". Perhaps the articles on photometry and radiometry would be a better place for the explanation you are suggesting.--Srleffler (talk) 01:01, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
The disambiguation ("dab") page has now been converted to a (short) article. Pictures could be added.

I converted it back. As I said above, it's better to explain this material at photometry and radiometry. Since "intensity" is an ambiguous term as applied to light, we need a disambiguation page to aid readers in navigating to the correct article, and to aid editors in fixing the incorrect links.--Srleffler (talk) 02:01, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
I reverted myself, since I'm going to be offline for a while and won't be around to discuss this.--Srleffler (talk) 04:53, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Good, I like it the way it is now :-) —DIV (138.194.12.32 (talk) 23:53, 17 December 2009 (UTC))Reply

The illustrated article never developed. Another editor happened along and tagged the article as a dab page, which is really all it was, so I reverted to the version that had the form of a dab page.--Srleffler (talk) 07:00, 20 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad I did that. On going through "what links here" I found that the status of this page as an article had caused the creation of a bunch of ambiguous links to it. "Light intensity" is not a single thing; it is a name that can refer to any of several distinct things. It always should have remained a dab page.--Srleffler (talk) 03:08, 21 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

See also templates?

See also Template:SI_light_units. Unlike the name of the template, this is actually a collection of "SI photometry units ", as per the table's caption. —DIV (138.194.12.32 (talk) 00:12, 18 December 2009 (UTC))Reply

Yes. See also Template:SI radiometry units.--Srleffler (talk) 00:57, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
