Ex-wife
editI'm sorry, perhaps it's me because I didn't watch it a second time yet, but am I the only that didn't hear the phrase "ex-wife" or anything similar to that? Perhaps it's true, but I don't remember it being stated? --HELLØ ŦHERE 19:55, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
- I guess I just assumed... after all I was pretty tired when I watched it. --Jackieboy87 (talk · contribs) 20:13, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Converging universes (Likely OR)
editI found it interesting that Jack couldn't remember having his appendix out and may not have been able to remember how long his son had been playing piano (though that may have been an allusion to his lack of contact with his son.) I wonder if this somehow implies that the flash-sideways universe and the main universe are "crossing over" somehow, and that the characters might start having memories of the alternate timeline. That's all clearly original research but I wonder if it might not merit mentioning the fact that Jack was having memory issues. Did anybody else think this was a significant plot point (regardless of speculative theories as to what it might mean)? --Oski Jr (talk) 21:54, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- It's interesting. I know a lot of people began to think that with his cut on sideways 815. But, it is OR and doesn't merit a note, unless a reliable source can be provided. Also, this seems very forum-esque, not sure it belongs here. --HELLØ ŦHERE 21:58, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for being a bit too free with my sharing my theories.. keeping it more focused on improving the article, how about this as a source for bringing up the memory issues? I also suppose we could just wait a few episodes and see if anything comes of it.. it's not like there's any rush to get the article finished. --Oski Jr (talk) 22:18, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, TV.com is almost 100% considered an unreliable source. And that's more of a review ("this is what I think is going on") not a fact ("hey this is what's going on"). But you are right, currently, there is no rush. 22:21, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
Another "Mirror" Universe
editI'm very much surprised no one has come to this page before me. This is just a preliminary discussion on episode 5, Season 6 of "Lost", called "The Lighthouse". Upon viewing it two references come to mind. First was an old episode of ROD SERLING'S "NIGHT GALLERY" called the "The Camera Obscura". What's delightful about this episode is that Rene AburJonas, who played the alien character "Odo" in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" appears here as the "heavy" in a situation where he harasses a tinkerer who has built an unusual periscopic device atop his house that not only spies on the quaint town where he lives below, but has the ability to see the past and future lives of the residents. As I remember the story, a door in the enclosed chamber where the device in stored can access other-dimensional planes of existence. Just like the "lighthouse"'s mirrors seem to visualize the places and times of the protagonists' origins.
The other reference is both historical and mythic. It involves Medieval Europeans' obsession with the legend of Ethiopian King PRESTER JOHN"[1]". I suppose the legend egged-on European explorers and booty-seekers to penetrate deeper into East Africa than was traditionally thought to dare, this fantasy rose up that the Abyssinian King had unimaginable treasures of gold and other riches that anyone with audacity would dare risk. More fascinating was the myth that the king had this fabulous mirror that granted him power to see events far and wide around the world. If I remember my E.S.P. and occult dalliances, this was called "skyring" power: The ability to see anything and anywhere at will using a reflective surface. Also, was it possible that Jacob, in his encounter with with each of the pre-"Flight 815" ppl actually NEVER physically left the island, but, with the use of the Lighthouse's peculiar properties actually ASTRO-PROJECTED to the the various scenes reflected? Like I said, this stuff is such fun!!! Anyway, it's interesting. The drama of the character "Jack Sheppard" catching-on quick that through the mysterious "Jacob" that the castaways, and probably everyone whose has ever come to the island has been manipulated for years, and were about to be again is exciting enough. But when Jack smashes the reflecting mirror, it made me Just at that instant realize that the notion of "predestination" has not only been imbued as an underlying theme throughout the series; it also harkens to the notion I believe is inherent particularly in Scottish, Presbyterian, and perhaps New England Puritan philosophy. I mean P-R-E-D-E-S-T-I-N-A-T-T-I-O-N!!! I come by this because the producers\creators and writers of "Lost" have inculcated EVERY character, theme of substance and action, speculative science, and philosophy with Anglo-"presbyterian", Free-Masonic myths, histories and fantasies. Fascinating and enjoyable, nonetheless.
Does anyone have anything to add or comment to this contribution? This is a sci-fi\action\melodrama, and of course their are other antecents and references I may not know of. Veryverser 07:06, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Veryverser — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.46.78.134 (talk)
