I'll review this. RetroLord 06:23, 23 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ok. This article needs some serious improvement in regards to referencing. I am considering failing it outright. Please improve it. RetroLord 07:56, 23 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Re: 1B - This paragraph is indented in the style of a blockquote. In the section titled "Block quotations", MOS:QUOTE states: "Format a long quote (more than about 40 words or a few hundred characters, or consisting of more than one paragraph, regardless of length) as a block quotation, which Wikimedia's software will indent from both margins. Do not enclose block quotations in quotation marks". This paragraph should not have quotation marks.
Re: 2A - I rewrote and sourced most of Lin Biao's article last year, expanding it to its present size. I would have nominated it for GA status at that time, but there were a few unsourced paragraphs present before my work that I thought were true, but which I could not find sources for (some of which you have noted), and so I thought the nomination would fail for being insufficiently supported by inline citations (as it probably will now). I will do another search, but I am not confident that I can find sources for these paragraphs without access to better research material than I now have available.Ferox Seneca (talk) 03:42, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your efforts. Just in case you didn't notice I have failed the GA so this may not be the best place to post this either. However, I will be very glad in the future to provide assistance should you require this to be GA reviewed again, RetroLord 09:41, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

1. Well-written:
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct.
1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation.

"Lin Biao did not present the bluff, lusty face of Peng Dehuai." There are no quote marks around this paragraph but I assume it is a quote as it is indented. Could you fix this? Also it has no real lead in and seems a bit out of place. The next one of these has a lead in, and sits better. Could you write a lead in for this?

2. Verifiable with no original research:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline.
  1. " By 1927 Lin was a colonel." Ref?
  2. "After the Communists finally resolved to abandon their base, later in 1934, Lin continued his position as one of the most successful commanders in the Red Army during the Long March. Under the direction of Mao and Zhou, the Red Army finally arrived at the remote Communist base of Yan'an, Shaanxi, in December 1936." Ref?
  3. " Li's account of Lin's condition is notably different from the official Chinese version." Ref?
  4. "or morphine." Ref?
  5. "In early October 1950, Peng Dehuai was named commander of the Chinese forces bound for Korea, and Lin went to the Soviet Union for medical treatment. Lin flew to the Soviet Union with Zhou Enlai and participated in negotiations with Joseph Stalin concerning Soviet support for China's intervention, indicating that Mao retained his trust in Lin." Ref?
  6. " Lin made no promise that China would fight other people's wars, and foreign revolutionaries were advised to depend mainly on "self-reliance"." Ref?
  7. "Lin Biao's military reforms and the success of the 1962 Sino-Indian War impressed Mao. A propaganda campaign called "learn from the People's Liberation Army" followed. In 1966, this campaign widened into the Cultural Revolution." Ref?
  8. "and he left most important work and family duties to his wife, Ye Qun." Ref?
  9. " The findings of Lin's attempt to contact the Kuomintang supported earlier rumors from inside China that Lin was secretly negotiating with Chiang's government in order to restore the Kuomintang government in mainland China in return for a high position in the new government. The claims of Lin's contact with the Kuomintang have never been formally confirmed nor denied by either the governments in Beijing or Taipei." Ref?

2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).
2c. it contains no original research.
3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic.
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
  4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
  5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content.
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.
  7. Overall assessment.
