Wikification

edit

I'm extensively reworking this article to not only get it formatted correctly, but to transform its text into something more Wikipedia-ish and less Encyclopaedia Brittanica-esque. This involves taking out quite a bit of the flowery language, but I'm also removing quite a few of the references to individual artists and their works; as a reader I find them unhelpful. If we could find images to add to the article, though, that would be absolutely spifftacular. Thanks for your help, people! Hobbularmodule 04:04, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

D'oh! I thought I'd finished all the necessary Wikification, but I guess not. Since the article needs images, I'll add a tag to that effect. RedRollerskate 12:35, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Not a big deal, and thanks for the image tag! I'm just a super lazy reader and I know in normal circumstances I wouldn't bother reading past, oh, the introduction, so I'm just attacking the text. With knives. Pointy knives.Hobbularmodule 21:55, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am writing an article called old master print on Western prints to about 1830, which will partly overlap with this one. This one certainly needs some factual improvement in places, which I can provide Johnbod 14:47, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

19th Century Section Revision

edit

I'm probably not going to get to paring down the 19th century section for quite some time, and as you can see it's still in the original style of the article (not Wikipedia at all). If someone wants to jump in, please do -- and be bold! -Hobbularmodule 14:24, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Woo! Ripped through the 19th century section, though I didn't pare it down nearly as much as the other sections. And I added quite a few more images from Wikimedia, which I hope help the article out...

Merge with Engraving

edit

There's a good piece under simply "Engraving". Maybe this one should be deleted?

Not deleted - they mostly do not cover the same material; maybe merged. Line engraving is a term that really only is used about C19 commercial work, not for earlier or later stuff. But the present engraving article is mainly about contemporary technique. I have an article under constuction called old master print which is on the social & art-historical history of the print to 1830 (so also etching, woodcut etc) . It covers much the same ground as the history section here but in more detail & more up to date. Johnbod 03:00, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
