Contradiction

edit

The article seems to contradict itself (or maybe it's just bad wording); first, they say as of 2004, Lineage is the most successful; then say that WoW has 6 million users (approx 2 million more than Lineage, at it's height), but WoW came out around 2004. The wording is a little off/odd; and gives the impression that the statement was made in 2004 and no one changed it. Is it saying that Lineage was best in 2004 but not anymore; since WoW replaced it that same year, and became the new #1 mmorpg?

Fair use rationale for Image:LinC0028.jpg

edit

Image:LinC0028.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Major work

edit

I realized today that I made no notes here. I made substantial changes to the layout and content. The article still needs considerably more formal work, but it is, I think, in much better shape.

I did not address the image, which has been deleted.

I was mainly interested in the text, which was... a mess.

I killed 2 links... a botting site and a cheat site. I did not see how they added value to the encyclopedic article. sinneed (talk) 02:01, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Subscribers from Korea

edit

The article says, "The magnitude of the number Korean subscribers compared to other countries has sparked a number of theories. A ban on some Japanese imports until 1998 has been cited for delayed growth in its video game console market." I would love to see some sources that discuss this. Anyone know where I can find one? OK, here's an academic article that discusses it a bit. Quote from page 65: "Since the inception of an electronic gaming culture, a gender divide in North America has been commonly witnessed. Wright et al. (2001) suggested much re-search has focused on the patterns of “boys using the computermore than girls do, particularly to play video games and computer games.” Korea, however, may be an exception to this tendency. Governmental policies and bans on Japanese im-ports, including video games and video game consoles, have resulted in very few children having access to these games. Although these video games and consoles were available on the blackmarket, parents generally did not approve of their chil-dren wasting time with these “frivolous toys” (Park, 2001). Computers however, were deemed educational and thus awelcomed addition to the homemediated en-vironment, causing Korea’s gaming industry to be based on a “large PC market and a small console market” (Park, 2001)."
