Contradictory content
editIf generative semantics "spawned an alternative linguistic paradigm, known as cognitive linguistics," then it cannot be that "generative semanticists operate on the premise that the mind has a unique and independent module for language acquisition, [whereas] cognitive linguists deny this." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.155.129.239 (talk) 11:02, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
NLP
editAm I correct in assuming that NLP stands for neuro-linguistic programming? Acronyms should be made explicit the first time they are used.
- You are incorrect - it is Natural Language ProgrammingBO; talk 01:20, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
- Even better, it's natural language processing. 178.13.4.15 (talk) 19:21, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
"Neurolinguistics"
editIs there a better way to phrase that last last sentence in the second paragraph? It makes it sound like the assumptions described here are a necessary feature of neurolinguistics, which they are not; neurolinguistics just studies the neurological correlates of language use, and isn't dependent on any particular theory of language or grammar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.28.31.117 (talk) 23:16, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
Book
editBesides the Randy Allen Harris book, there have been articles and other books. Worth mentioning specifically would be The Ideological Structure of Linguistic Theory by Geoffrey J. Huck and John A. Goldsmith , published 1995. Here is Amazon's link for their e-book version: amazon.com/Ideology-Linguistic-Theory-Chomsky-Structure-dp-0415117356/dp/0415117356 It combines linguistics theory, history, and memoir/interviews with several main players. It also deals with the aftermath of the "wars", including what other "schools" can be said to have emerged from Generative Semantics -- not just as in the disputed-in-talk sentence about "Eventually, generative semantics spawned an alternative linguistic paradigm, known as cognitive linguistics, .." - Hey, thanks for working on this article. Something that would be useful for reviewing it is page numbers in the citations. There are multiple ways of formatting this, but one I sometimes use is <ref name = "bladibla" />{{rp|style=ama|p=420}} Botterweg14 (talk) 15:03, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
