Moronic Title

edit

This article is in DESPERATE need of being retitled.

A visit to the official airport website refers to it as "Aeroporto de Lisboa" in Portuguese and "Lisbon Airport" in English. If the operators of the facility use these names, then why is the article slugged with a name that I suspect nobody outside of Portugal would use on a bet?

I will accept the fact I may be off base here, but referring to airports in an online resource that is used by people across the globe should display a bit of common sense. I'd wager more people (by a few orders of magnitude) know where Lisbon is than Portela. Especially those interested in finding out more about the airport.

Re-titling the English language article "Lisbon Portela Airport" makes sense and in no way detracts from the facility's supposed correct name as used on the article at present. Even if the operators don't use it.

The official name of this airport is Aeroporto Internacional de Lisboa. Aeroporto da Portela is an informal name given by taxi-drivers and the people who lives in Lisboa. Aeroporto de Lisboa is a simplified way to talk about the airport. Thank you! Mjsanunes (talk) 16:25, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Accidents and incidents

The chapter accidents and incidents should be eliminated since those accidents and or incidents did not take place at lisbon airport. they took place in brazil and the azores islands. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.184.17.124 (talk) 14:02, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I somewhat agree, title should be changed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.126.122.160 (talk) 07:13, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Lead picture change

edit

The lead picture very poorly illustrates the airport, a large portion is of part of an aeroplane's wing. Anyone object to it being changed/reverted? Mtaylor848 (talk) 03:36, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Lisbon Humberto Delgado AirportLisbon Airport – Per the common name policy. Indeed, the website of the airport doesn't make a mention of the modified name, and a google search turns up a paltry 143 000 or so results. Why, even the Portuguese version of the airport's webpage makes no visible mention of the name. MikeLynch (talk) 09:41, 27 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Well, in fact, the Portuguese version is labelled "Aeropuerto Humberto Delgado"...--Bouzinac (talk) 21:19, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
No, it doesn't seem to be. (Although I must note that they changed the website of the airport considerably since the RM was initiated). MikeLynch (talk) 08:32, 6 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Santarém project

edit

As of 2024, I understand it is now decided to create a new airport for Lisboa at Santarém. There is however no mention of this in the present article, nor could I find a separate artice about this project. Who takes the initiative? Myself feel insufficiently qualified. Apologies, I was sadly mistaken. The place of choice is Montijo Air Base, cfr. our article New Lisbon Airport.Jan olieslagers (talk) 15:47, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
