"Trademark" ??
editDoes Weird Al really have a trademark on the term "Polka medleys" as the article currently appears to say or at least imply in the first sentence?? Did he invent them? Has no one else, ever created a polka medley? --Nerd42 (talk) 18:13, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
- You're misunderstanding the use of the word "trademark" here. It doesn't necessarily mean something that one has exclusive rights to, it can also simply mean something that someone is known for. If someone comments on a certain lighting style or camera angle that a particular film director uses frequently, it could be referred to as that director's "trademark style". Nobody is suggesting that Weird Al is the only person who has ever done polka medleys, nor is anyone saying that he is the only one capable and/or allowed to do so. What is being suggested is that 1) when you hear a polka medley, even if it's not Al, you're likely to think of it as something you'd expect to hear from Al, and 2) when one thinks of the overall body of Weird Al's work, polka medleys are a significant part of it. Since Weird Al is the only person to whom one might reasonably apply both statements, polka medleys are considered to be a trademark of his. - 173.181.57.59 (talk) 23:46, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

- There's a tune at the beginning before "Poker Face" starts, I recognize it from "Fiesta" by The Pogues, and here's what that article says about it:
- It was written by Jem Finer and Shane MacGowan, based on a Spanish fairground melody Finer had picked up (this melody is an appeal or lure from a sausages kiosk named "salchichas Uranga (sausages Uranga)" in the feasts of the city of Almería -Feria de Almería-, in southern Spain).
- Not sure how to incorporate this into the list, just thought I should point it out. - 173.181.57.59 (talk) 13:53, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- About to make some changes to this based on a listing on Amazon[http://www.amazon.com/Alpocalypse-Vinyl-Weird-Al-Yankovic/dp/B00559A1Z0/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1308065361&sr=1-1]... Al just posted a link to a pre-order for the Vinyl release, and I noticed it had a song listing for the polka. - 68.145.108.99 (talk) 17:44, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
Unconfirmed 1981 polka medley
editI just saw this line :
A 1981 polka medley is believed to be the first official Yankovic polka medley. It included parts of the songs "Jocko Homo" by Devo, "Homosapien" by Pete Shelley, "Sex Junkie" by Plasmatics, "TV O.D.", "Bad Boys Get Spanked" by The Pretenders, "TV Party" by Black Flag, "Janitor", and "People Who Died" by Jim Carroll. ("Jocko Homo" was later re-used in "Polkas on 45".)[citation needed]
If there's any source for this, I'd really love to see or hear it. I don't think I've ever been so anxious for a citation. ----DanTD (talk) 17:12, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
"NOW That's What I Call Polka!"
editI removed questionable list of songs submitted by anonymous person. If it wasn't fake (which I really doubt), please refer to the source. --Vikte (talk) 18:46, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Reception
editThe end of the reception section doesn't seem to properly reflect the article cited; The Dreadnoughts' comment on the dumb euro stereotype was in reference to Latka, Cousin Balki, Yakov Smirnoff, Wild and Crazy Czechosolvaks, and Borat, not Weird Al. I'd suggest cutting that out, and just leaving the comment about the mashup comedy style. 2001:8003:2208:1200:5E94:38CD:BA27:F0AA (talk) 23:07, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
