One Afghan police killed on January 8.[2]In the eastern city of Jalalabad, according to The Associated Press, about 5,000 demonstrators blamed the American forces for a deadly explosion. According to a district police chief in Nangarhar Province, where the explosion occurred, five people were killed: two boys, two adults and an Afghan police officer. Local officials said four children were killed.

  • In 2007, 803 Afghan policemen and 209 Afghan soldiers killed.
  • In 2008, 880 Afghan policemen and 226 Afghan soldiers killed.
  • In 2009(Form January to May) 341 Afghan policemen and 114 Afghan soldiers killed.

Notability missing in lead paragraph

I see that editors have expended a lot of time on this list. Please could someone explain why it is notable and how it qualifies under Wikipedia's notability guidelines? Wikipedia:Notability (events) says: Many events receive coverage in the news and yet are not of historic or lasting importance.
