Incomplete list!
editWhere are the islands?!? 41.221.193.172 (talk) 22:16, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
- I see Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, Comoros, Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar. Isn't that all of the countries of Africa that have no territory on a continental mainland? What islands were you referring to as being left out? Malta? If I were a geographer I'd say Malta is part of Africa, but most don't and I've never understood why.2600:1700:6759:B000:1C64:8308:33BC:E2D6 (talk) 12:48, 13 February 2023 (UTC)Christopher L. Simpson

- Yes. Please don't add this kind of message. Fade258 (talk) 05:39, 19 February 2022 (UTC)
This is just wrong
editAs of the time and date of this Talk-Page edit, the article says "Including the exclave of Cabinda. Angola is the largest country in Africa and the fourth-largest country in the world which is completely in the Southern Hemisphere." That's just crazy. The exclave of Cabinda is a tiny sliver. Adding it to Angola doesn't move Angola up the list to where it is larger than Algeria. It just doesn't. Look at any map.2600:1700:6759:B000:1C64:8308:33BC:E2D6 (talk) 12:42, 13 February 2023 (UTC)Christopher Lawrence Simpson
Political bias
editThis is wrong and must be rectified, the list does not include Western Sahara and added the sum of its territory to Morocco, Western Sahara is a member state of the African Union https://au.int/en/member_states/countryprofiles2 - and is included in the UN's official map https://www.un.org/geospatial/content/map-world-1 197.204.222.80 (talk) 00:24, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
Table overhaul
editThe default page width is now narrower, so I moved all the notes into a notes section. This gave a lot more room, so I added a percent column. While I was at it I updated the source and double checked everything for accuracy, and added sources to any calculations that would have relied on the 2007 CIA source. The oldest source is now from 2015.
I also split off Western Sahara because someone requested it and to be in line with the big list.
The numbers are also centered, and the Rank and Notes column are now unnamed. Wizmut (talk) 03:52, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
Spain missing
editWhy was my edit on [1] reverted? I added Spain as the 50th country by area, considering only the territories in Africa, which are: the Canary Islands, Ceuta, Melilla and the Plazas de soberanía. It was reverted after a few days without giving any explanation. 12qwas (talk) 12:03, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
- Good question. There are also small islands closer to Africa than any other continent, technically parts of Italy (Pantelleria, Lampedusa e Linosa) and Portugal (Madeira). Not to mention Mayotte which "in" France. Wizmut (talk) 12:21, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
- Exactly, right? And it's not like I'm making anything new. Have a look to this article: List of European countries by area, you can see how they only added the European area of Russia, or that of Turkey, or Georgia or Azerbaijan. So following that logic it makes sense for me to add the African area of Spain and of any other countries missing. --12qwas (talk) 16:40, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
