Talk:List of American advertising characters/Archives/2012

Attention, anonymous contributor

Attention, Cartoon Vandal/MascotGuy: I remain optimistic that you will read this, even though you have shown no evidence of reading Talk pages or paying any attention to what others say.

This is a list of fictional characters created for advertising purposes. You continue making (and re-making) additions that do not qualify for this list.

  • Buster Brown was originally a comic strip character and was later used in ads; therefore, he does not qualify for this list.
  • Clara Peller was not an advertising character; she played a character in Wendy's commercials. Therefore, she does not qualify for this list.
  • Dave Thomas was an actual person, not an advertising character. Therefore, he does not qualify for this list.
  • Willy Wonka was originally a book and movie character before being used in advertising. Therefore, he does not qualify for this list.

If you persist in making bogus contributions like this, you will be blocked. —tregoweth 00:58, Dec 7, 2004 (UTC)

Also, J. Fred Muggs was not an advertising character, he was an actual chimpanzee. Anita Bryant was called "The Coca-Cola Girl," but she wasn't playing a character; she was more of a generic mascot. Ubu was a mascot, not a fictional character. Stop the madness!tregoweth 22:43, Dec 7, 2004 (UTC)

Anonymous contributor: Please stop replacing the introductory text for this list with your version. It is confusing and poorly written, and obviously assembled from bits and pieces of other text. I don't know if English is your first language; perhaps you would be more comfortable at the Wikipedia for your native language.

(I hesitate to be so rude, but the time for Wikilove has long passed, and you never respond to these anyway.) —tregoweth 03:17, Dec 22, 2004 (UTC)

Perhaps the title is a bit misleading? The vast majority of these characters are not known outside the USA. I would suggest the inclusion of the work "American" somewhere?

Good point. Something to add to my to-do list... —tregoweth 16:29, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)

how about the guy from those Verizon Wireless commercials?? The "Can You Hear Me Now?" Guy

The Geico Caveman needs to be added. Not sure I'm Wiki-literate enough to do it, and I don't want to break anything. Smaragd 01:31, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
