Inclusion of Watterson and Entwistle

edit

It seems questionable whether Watterson and Entwistle should be included here, as neither was a bishop of a church of the Anglican Communion (i.e. a church in communion with the Archbishop of Canterbury) before they converted to Roman Catholicism. Watterson was consecrated bishop of the Anglican Church in North America, and Entwistle was a bishop of the Traditional Anglican Communion. (Several other bishops listed here also held office in similar bodies, but they had originally been consecrated within churches in the Anglican Communion).Ntmr (talk) 18:05, 1 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I think including them is okay, but I do think that something needs to be added to acknowledge the distinction you point out. Either something in the lead to make clear that the article takes a broader conception of Anglicanism than simply the Anglican Communion, (perhaps mentioning the Continuing Anglican movement and Anglican realignment). Alternatively, a footnote or colour code to indicate those who were priests in the CofE/ECUSA etc. but were made bishops only after they'd left. Wilkinson would also be in that category, and posssibly Reid too, although the wording in his article isn't clear. I'm not clear either on exactly which church Watterson was consecrated in, as the Anglican Church in North America doesn't match in terms of dates. 217.155.59.206 (talk) 10:56, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Regarding Reid, his profile on the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross webpage [1] confirms that he was not ordained in the Anglican Church of Canada, only becoming a deacon after joining the Anglican Catholic Church of Canada, so I've adjusted his listing in the table. The same source also details Entwistle's earlier service in the Church of England, so I've added that to his entry as well. 2A02:8012:227B:0:B44C:BDB0:D24:8A9C (talk) 18:09, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Incidentally, another in this category not currently on the list would be John Hepworth, as his article says he converted before his death. 217.155.59.206 (talk) 10:43, 27 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
